We had to get a new breakaway cable...it was the attachment to the van that failed...don't know if it was a hook or a ring, but it was straight when it came off...new one looks much better quality.
Will do the lift before with put the stabiliser down from now on...we just did it in the order Venture showed us...the crusader didn't have a stabiliser so never had to bother about that.

Veema - thanks for posting about it - its all useful info and a very useful reminder for all of us to be honest. (especially to check and then double check everything and do all you - which it sounds like you did anyway)
Glad you are back out there enjoying it

We did the same ... three years ago ... departing from home (!) .. got a mile down the road before realising that nothing was following the car!!
Found the FC in the lane jus outside the house ... similarly, no idea how it became unhitched as I had, I thought, rigorously checked ... we switched to an Alko stabiliser hitch shortly afterwards ... not because of that .. . but, I'm always extra careful now.

Phew...thank goodness we're not the only ones...I had wanted to post about it when we got back but was so bothered we'd get the sort of replies that insinuated we were useless and hadn't a clue what we were doing. That and the fact we were just so upset it happened to us. The worst bit for me was thinking about it coming off on the motorway...we could have caused a really bad accident, even killed someone...its just so scary.

after we set off, literally just 20 yards down the road[we live in a dead end street] i apply the brakes quite hard and then reverse the unit about a yard and then -providing all is good, off we go[something i have done since our little "coming apart"!!

The main thing is no one got hurt, cars/caravans can be fixed but people don't do easily.
It's weird as I have this worry lately, so I always jump up and down on the tow bar, as I always remember my dad doing this just to make sure it's fully down......... Hopefully.

Hello MrT007
still miss the fc, but quite enjoying the tin top, can literally arrive legs down etc( caravan not mine). Open the door and we are in no moving things out the way to sit down.
We finally sold the fc at Easter first people to see it bought it, I could barely watch him drive off with it felt heart broken, at the same time a little reliefed. But it has gone to a lovely family about 20mins away. They even sent a text last month after their first outing saying how they loved it.
Hubby hasn't towed the van yet, I keep offering but he knows how bad a passenger I am. We had to take it to the dealers and they commented on how they thought it was unusual the woman driving - it works for us.
