Well our second trip out in the new to us Sterling couldnt have been different. After non stop rain last time we got blazing hot sunshine this weekend!
We stayed on a caravan only site and of course we were the only fc there. What a different atmosphere to a regular campsite. There seemed to be far fewer people milling about, mainly because the facilities were fairly limited so people were using their vans for washing up, cooking indoors and generally staying around their own pitches more.
Its been a great weekend, just a different experience. Ready to book the next trip now!
How did you manage to get booked into that site then?
There is a site we would like to stay at that's caravan only that will not allow our folding camper...... and another site we would like to stay at that won't allow us either as it's tents only, no caravans or motor homes :(
We just told them what we had and asked if they would accept it and they said yes that was fine. I dont see the difference between a fc and a caravan to be honest so I think it would have been unfair to say no.
I know the site we were at dont take tents because they dont have enough facilities and most caravanners dont mind this. We are fairly self sufficient in our fc (except for a shower) so I dont see why it should be a problem.
Of course at the end of the day its up to the site owners what they accept I suppose.
I find that caravan only sites are a lot quieter because once the door's closed on the caravans, you can't hear any TV noise or even talking.
The other side to that is that if they're sitting outside of an evening or up early, they don't realise that you can hear every word because you're under canvas.

But if it was a caravan only site there wouldn't be anyone under canvas

This is true, in fact it was almost too quiet and I was aware of how non-sound-proof our camper is! I sort of missed the bit of background chit chat you get on sites with tents. Then again on a night it was absolutely silent.
If you tell the site you are the same as a 'soft top' caravan the owners will sometimes let you on....
As mentioned above people get confused between trailer tents which I class as a tent attached to a trailer(there are a few exceptions before I get shouted at lol)) and a folding camper which as I say is a soft top caravan.
I must admit I prefer to have people milling about, on the whole safer and I love being nosey and chatting to people....
I always ensure when I say folding camper, I tell them not a trailer tent.
That usually does the trick. It's quite amazing that on some sites they haven't seen one before and are genuinely gobsmacked when they look in them.
Also one other point which is also relevant for other types of site, I also tell them how big the unit is erected. Otherwise they give you a smaller pitch!! Pathfinders are quite big especially with the full awning on.
