Well after a bit of research i bit the bullet and upgraded our neptunes lights to LED's. The original light fittings seemed to let in water and a couple of the terminals had corroded and broken off beyond repair.
I needed to replace those units but in the past on other trailers the same problem had occurred so i thought of the LEDs upgrade this time.

This is the original with its broken corroded terminal

And these are the replacements. First of all i purchased the ring 5 way led light but discovered the fifth element is actually a reflector and not a fog.To overcome the lack of fog i had to get the ring led fogs too.
The codes are on the box in the pics. Amazon was cheapest for the main unit and ebay for the fogs.

First up to remove the original units. This was done by prising the tabs either side of the securing nuts then unscrewing.
The protruding bolts were then cropped off.

Next up was to make a hole so i could sort out the wiring.I chained drilled around and squared it with a file. The led units are sealed in a resin with wires protruding.i used a rachet crimping tool and spade connectors. This allowed it to all just plug into the existing wires.
Once you connect the wires its just a case of attaching the unit mount with 4 screws then it clips in.The fogs just have 2 screws and is one piece. The fogs dont come supplied with screws so i used some selfdrilling drywall screws i had, they worked a treat.

The finished result ! This was taken in bright sunlight and doesnt really show how effective they are.The tails, fogs and hazards are on in this pic.
The upgrade cost £84 and a price i was more than happy paying for the extra safety the leds bring.Ive lost count of how many trailers ive followed with poor lighting you dont even notice are braking or indicating !
Do the lights 'pull' enough current to make the trailer buzzer operate, (beeping when indicating etc)??
As over time at work, we're changing all the lights to LED's on the trailers etc that go on tractors that have lights, and we've noticed they don't activate the 'trailer' display on the dash....
On our car an, 04 zafira, they do buzz as normal. Ring do a box that covers the problem of not enough current draw activating the newer wiring systems.
What you need then is the ring rct401 load device. You wire this inline and it solves that particular problem apparently. I emailed ring directly about this but thought i would save the £28 for it and try without first. If we change cars then i may to install one or get the new towbar we have fitted, adapted at install.
josey i did mention in the original psot where i purchased the units from. Ebay for the fogs and amazon for the units, these were the cheapest deals at the time as amazon had a sale.
