Hi, its me again, I will get to buy a folding camper one day lol. Please can all you folding camper owners tell me the pluses and minuses of gas strut fold over beds and conamatic pull out beds. I've now seen a lovely version of a 2007 Crusader with slide out beds but someone told me to steer clear of these and I am wondering why?
Don't know why, we have a 2007 crusader, love it, can put up if raining no problems, if dry pack up can leave half the pods attached, never had any problems
as above the slide out bed system has a lot of pluses and no downside, but you just have to check they are working correctly.if someone climbs on a bed before the supports are in place the runners can get bent.as long as they run in and out smoothly then they will give years of trouble free camping.
Another vote for the slide out beds, one of the runners had bent slightly when I first bought it but I bought a replacement from the Pennine site for around £50.
The other advantage is that they can be erected in minutes in the rain.

I helped someone who was trying to put up a cruiser with slide out beds for the first time. He was having trouble getting the bed to slide out far enough. It might have been that he had done other things in the wrong order, it was his first time putting up. Otherwise no experience. I'm happy with gas struts, not had a big problem of wet beds and have opened a couple of times in heavy rain. Just have to be organised and quick.

Another one with slide out beds. We've never had a problem with them and tbh find the idea of foldout ones a faff (disclaimer: I'm sure they're not though). We pile quite a bit on our beds eg pillows, cushions, roof liner, which I think would all fall off if we had to turn the bed over!
I'm not sure why someone said that tbh. Perhaps they just meant that they were made before Pennine took over Conway. But then they made the Conways in the same way for a couple of years before switching to foldout beds anyway.
Disclaimer Noted Chicaguapa. We have stuff on bed, but maybe not as much as you! Sleeping bag etc held on by 3 straps provided by Pennine.
I may be wrong but I think the beads sit a bit higher on the slideouts? Giving less headroom in the bedroom (not so good for me but probably liveable with) and also making them higher to get up into (not so ideal for OH - but again I'm sure liveable with).

We bought our first folding camper this year back in April. Absolutely love it!
I can imagine we all have our favourites and what we are used to. Generally, i find that someone giving off bad vibes about a product, either had a duff one or it was operator error..
Everything on our beds gets packed away so folding not really an issue. Can see the attraction of not having to move stuff off the sliding beds though :)
Hello fellow campers, I have just purchased a Pennine Sterling SE folding camper this weekend. Can't wait to get going with it. I used to have a Sunncamp 350 SE Trailer Tent some years ago but sold it. Now got the camping bug again. Does anyone else own a Pennine Sterling ? mine is around a 1998 model, it's in very good condition for its age.
