Hi Matt-Lucie

Glad to hear we have another possible convert to Camp-let life. I was going to offer a bit of advice but it looks like kate w covered it all. She's not on commission. Honest

If there is any info you need, even if it's advice about a used one listed on ebay, let us know. We're happy to help.

Having been caravanners and tenters for years we decided to sell and go for a Camplet they look great however we settled for a Raclet Solena because although only 2 berth they seem more spacious and require no pegging for the cabin unit also the awning zips off so it can be used without, a bedroom annex is available which will sleep 2 and is in our opinion better than Camplet because they are designed to sleep in length ways as opposed to sideways. We only have a small drive at home so if we had to pack up wet there is enough room to set the main cabin on the drive and hang the awning over the washing line in the back garden this cant be done with a camplet. Anyway they are all good and I am sure you will have a great time using whatever you buy, for your information pre 2007 Camplets don't have windows in the bedroom rear panels

We've had our 2012 Camplet Concorde SE for 18 months now and had a good few holidays in it. It has some definite advantages and things that we love:

1. It is easy and quick to put up (it's the rest of the unpacking that takes ages!)
2. It is great that you can store everything to do with the tent inside it so once you've sorted it all out at home and packed it away complete with all clean bedding you are ready to pack clothes, hook up and go.
3. The kitchen on our model has both cupboards and drawers which makes for great storage.
4. The beds are comfy - though you need mats for condensation.
5. It's dead easy to tow and you can store stuff ontop of it.

BUT...and they are big buts for us...

1. The lack of zip in groundsheet is a massive problem for us. We had a particularly wet couple of weeks in France and our groundsheet was floating at times. With 2 small children running in and out, it takes about 5 mins after putting it up for them to get the beds dirty. Many UK sites only allow tent carpets and even in the dry it always gets wet through so the children always have to have shoes on. They can't really play on the floor of the awning, only in the 'bedroom'.
2. It is not the biggest for a family of 4. We have the annex on the side but it's a bit of a squash with a table and chairs inside. We bought a tarp to have our table and chairs under and this was much better.

We became very envious of a family in a Raclet Safari which when compared with ours seemed to have many advantages:

1. It was much bigger, the main awning was much wider and it had a really good canopy section (much bigger than the ones you can get for the Camplet)
2. You can put just a small section of it up extremely quickly for overnight stays - much quicker than for us to put up and peg out the whole Camplet.
3. The whole awning had a zip in groundsheet - shoes were left under the canopy and socks happily worn inside.
4. It has waste for the water.

We are seriously considering trading ours in for the Raclet. We would definitely have bought this had we have seen it when we bought ours.

They all have their pros and cons, the biggest advantage to the Camplet was the size and weight, plus the obvious build quality. We were quite happy with ours until we had to start using the annex, it had no mud skirts so we had problems with water coming in under it, and losing that side wall for access to it made the awning effectively smaller. If your only issue with it is the groundsheet though I would consider trying to get a bathtub style groundsheet for it, Camperlands certainly used to make them, and if they don't anymore then TVS will.

Breathable groundsheets aren't really suitable for use in trailer tents which don't have living space off the ground. If you're visiting sites which take tents then you should be able to use a waterproof groundsheet, and if the site insists on breathable then you wouldn't be able to use a ZIG either.

A bigger awning will take more pitching, so you need to ask yourself if its realistic to use the unit without the awning. When our children were younger we needed the space even for a weekend, so stuck with the pram hood style of quick erect TT until recently. Those fab kitchens weigh a ton, and have to be moved out of the way so you can zip in the groundsheet, then put back.

What's best is really about what's important to you, and how you camp, there is no option which ticks everyone's boxes.

All the best,
Alison

Good advice on the groundsheet, will look into the bathtub ones. We were also thinking of a footprint groundsheet and just pegging the inside annex pegs through it. So hard to weigh up all the pros and con's!!

Well, if you're offering!!

Camperlands were very helpful when I bought mine back in 2010. Buying from them you get a good demo set up before you take it home and they're easy to get hold of on the phone if you enounter any problems.

I think bathtub would work better, or just over size and let it sit up the walls a bit. We got out of bed to a stream running through the awning, but with a bit of propping up of the sides of the groundsheet we managed to divert it under again! I have to say though, that was in the October and the following spring we traded in for a Jametic with a ZIG, but the kids were growing and we'd bought a dog, so we were feeling a little cramped as well. The ZIG was a definite plus though!

After 32 years carry a tent when climbing injuries forced us off our feet, then 25 years with a motor home and with age creeping up on us, we have just changed to a Camplet Concorde Classic so we have the car for days we can't manage 60 miles on the bikes.
Price was brilliant, brand new and bags of extra's thrown in for £7000. Total weight with all the extra's is still only 320 kgs, leaving more than enough available weight for table and chairs and bikes. Light and easy to move by hand, unlike other TT's we looked at.
We have changed cars but our old Citreon C2 could manage it easily, with the C3 and a little extra power its a doddle to tow, where the car goes so does the trailer. You can easily forget it's there but for the bike's filling the back window.
Great customer service, having found water ingress before we used it, Camperlands simply supplied us with a brand new replacement.
What you don't get compared with a MH is a shower, heater, and a grill. No great concern as we rarely used the first two anyway but I will miss the grill for my morning toast.
