Hi one & all.

I'm looking to buy a FC shortly, but just wheighing up my options as to whether it will be from new or second-hand. Looking around the interweb, I wondered when/which year Pennine/Conway began producing the FC's with isacryl canvas? In your opinions, is it better than the previous canvas types?

Not sure but i think it was 2009/2010 ish, but someone will be along soon who does know for definate,there did seem to be some folks on here that reported leaks on the synthetic canvas...

The new model range came out in 2008, but I believe it was 2009 / 2010 when the Isabella canvases / awnings came in.

They are better, insofar as they don't encourage mould and mildew like the old ones did, but they're no Dandy's, so the extra packing away wet time isn't that massive. Nice to get one if you can, but less likely to pick one up at a bargain price.

From a personal perspective (and it is just personal opinion) I'm not a big fan of the canvas colours from 2005 - 2010 (the two tone green and coffee and cream ones) but the grey / silver of the new Isabella ones, I think, looks a lot better, as well as performing better.

Our 2009 crusader had an acrylic canvas...there are two types, can never remember them isotex and isocryl I think, can't remember which came first. We never had any trouble with it leaking.

Our 2010 crusader had it and we never had any problems. Luckily we never had to pack up wet either but if it was wet the water just beads on it so you can more or less shake it off.

The Isacryl, which is breathable came first, on the Conway Platinum badged models, Then the Isatex on the Pennine Quartz Models, like our Quartz 4. The Isatex was heavier, but was wipe clean. We find it not quite as easy to work with when setting and packing up, but it dries quickly. However it was much more expensive than the Isacryl, which pushed up the price of the Quartz models which is why Pennine dropped them (aacording to Terry at Camping Intl) and now they use Isacryl as standard.

Touchwood we've never had any leak problems, even after 4 days of constant, sometimes heavy, rain in Germany this year.

That's great, just the sort of informative responses I was hoping for! 17 

Really helps when looking at the second-hand models. Have a reasonable budget, so might try and hold out for a decent nearly-new one with the acrylic canvas. Will be our first FC and hope to make it last for a few years yet. Trouble is, I'm not sure I'm that patient even though I know I won't be using it anytime soon!

We have a 2010 Countryman, and can confirm the fabric does dry much quicker than cotton canvas. After a shower its dry in 10 minutes
