I've just bought a vintage Esterel (picking it up in the morning) and I can't wait. My not so trusty VW campervan is minus a working engine currently and it's killing me not getting out and about camping at the moment so the folding caravan option seemed a good next step.

I've been watching the Esterel on Ebay for a while since a friend picked up a great one for £1k in summer and the late 1980s models tend to go for around similar prices. Not significantly more than a large tent ....   There are also some Casita models that look very similar. Definitely worth looking at.

If you've seen the price of large polycotton tents recently - you'd be saying 'significantly cheaper' cotton prices have sent tent prices through the roof

Thanks everyone, you have all given me some great options.

I looked at the Rapido online, and it didn't look too east to put up, but will consider that model if another comes up.

Love the Esterel too, and yes, they are a good buy on ebay at the moment, though I think there have been a couple of iffy (scam) ones there too.

Such a shame that they are all so far away, well, not by some peoples estimation, but loooong way for me I don't travel well unfortunately, and have an old dog that cannot be left at home.

I am so happy that even the old ones are still well loved by everyone that has them, so there is hope yet.

Oh, I am so silly, I have only just seen the Esterel in East Sussex, too late now cos my husband is at work and he may not appreciate that much of a surprise, or shock to the bank balance

I think the plus for a Gobur is the original quality and the fact they are still made and repaired in this country by Gobur themselves. In Norfolk, Norwich I believe.

You are right about the Gobur, of course. Having spares and current info would be a bonus.

On the other hand, there is a really cheap Casita in Bewdley on ebay at the moment, lots of pics have just been added, so may look at it.

It is item no.231340069229 if anyone can think of good or bad reasons, your knowledge would be most appreciated.

The company seems to check out and it is a classified ad, so won't need to bid and wait.

Hi Ditsy We live in Chelmsford Essex bought our Esterel from Ebay classified 2 years ago from Ebay seller Richard Ebay name yellow beard.dont ask why. He specializes in folding caravans .lcan say he is a very nice guy to deal with and prices very fair cheaper than many dealers. No pressure to buy always seems to have a small selection. At various prices.Would recommend no problem.

Thanks for that KEN+BARB. I have put it on hold for the moment, but am keeping an eye on ebay. Great to know of a fairly close dealer though.
We may well take a wander up there to see him, when we are more serious.
