I have been looking around and found a couple of trailer tents and folding campers. One I am interested in the guy told me it has a few small pin holes in the canvas but they have been there for a couple of years and not caused any leaks.

Are pinholes something to be concerned about ?

As long as that's all they are, then unlikely to be an issue. The threads of the canvas will expand and contract, as they get wet and dry out again. What are quite noticeable when dry, may almost completely close up when wet (a bit like a wooden barrel). I would want to have a good look, just to be sure, if it was me, but I certainly wouldn't rule it out.

Examine very carefully to ensure no damage to canvas, provided is just a wide weave then should be ok.

Thanks it's only 30 odd miles from me so going to take a look tomorrow .

It is a trailer tent, and the guy could give me a lot of information on it and had a genuine reason for selling . Although ideally would like to have a fc, I think the ones I have seen on selling sites have some 'slight issues' so I may have to go to a trailer tent for a season, then if I can get together a bit more money for next year my sis in law could use it after.

It's a raclet jade, are they worth trying .providing the pinholes are just that ?

The Jade is your bog standard, traditional format TT, but it does it very well. Plenty of room, and relatively straightforward to set up (if not the quickest in the World). They are basic, but that means there's very little to go wrong with them. To be honest, I don't think I, personally, have ever seen a bad review of them, so they must be half decent. Not sure if you've seen many pictures, but it's your straight forward trad layout, with 2 double beds, and 2 basic benches in the trailer, plus main living area, with kitchen area off and under bed space for extra bed pods. As an introduction to TTs, I would say it's pretty much spot on.

It's always worth a viewing .. but sounds it like it may be worth a try if it looks sound .

I have my ideal eye on the countryman just a shame they are a bit over my budget so think it's worth easing myself in moving from the traditional tents

Good luck with it. It may not be a Countryman, but it's a start, and I'm sure you'll love it, regardless. I was going to upgrade to a Pathfinder last year, but I'd put so much time, effort and money into my Sterling, I didn't want to sell it. lol.

The pinholes are easily sorted with seam sealant, we have quite a few on our neptune after the previous owners puppy decided it was a bone.

We had a raclet jade and it was a good starting point. Very stable in the wind and nice having the toilet compartment. I spent a bit of tim removing the pink eighties graphics off the trailer itself using a hair drier and old credit card as a scraper. A quick tcut and polish after and it looked great and more modern.

We have a 2009 Cruiser and i noticed lots of pinholes where the stitching was and like you was a tad concerned. However whilst away last year we got rather a wet weekend and absolutely nothing leaked. Stitching must have expanded as it should and sealed it all up.
Was a bit of a leap of faith but all good in the end☺

We have cats who jumped on our fc roof and stuck their claws in. We didnt realise the damage till we were away and could see daylight thru the roof in lots of little holes. However we did survive hurricane bertha and all the rain with no leaks....we were chuffed to bits :-)
