After looking at the advice on here and looking around I have settled for a nice little raclet unit as an introduction to t world. It has a few little things here and there (slight rip in the bedroom compartment inner thingy- the internal thing ) which I can get my sewing machine out and fix. It does have 2 tiny holes that I've looked into getting some tape to fix (smaller than a pen top size ).. I went and seen a couple but this one just felt right and was worth a shot.. picking it up on the 1st Feb .. I was unable to collect on that day of viewing and next weekend my hubby away so it's got to be then.

I'm quite excited and already looking around for 2 main things .... electric hook up (any ideas of best and safest one ?) And a oil filled radiator (read a thread on here for heating and with a 3 year old I though this was best )

Any EHU that can be bought from a camping accessory shop, made for that purpose with a built in trip switch bit will be safe. Don't buy one that's home made (ebay). The ones with 3 sockets in a row are alright but can be awkward at times when you've got big plugs and ones that don't bend as they're one on top of the other. You can get them that are in a line or in a triangle.

hi hope you enjoy your new tt. you want this sort and not this sort. as to rad just get one that is 2 kw and adjustable to a lower setting.

If your holes are small enough, a good blob of seam sealant (the kind that comes in a tube like a tube of uhu glue) and let it cure for a couple of days will do the trick.

If you've got bigger holes a piece of spare canvas (stolen from a pole bag etc.) stitched on and sprayed with fabsil is probably cheapest and longest lasting.

Thanks for that info.. online shopping I go

The guy said the holes never caused him a leak and it was him that pointed them out to me without prompting I couldn't see them initially. So I am finding it hard not to trust him on that one

I am looking at the 3 in a line one, I don't really have anything with bulky plugs so shouldn't be an issue I hope

Agree with Wongers' link on the correct choice of hookup, as it has protected sockets, trip facility and mine actually clips onto the tent pole as well, so it can be positioned in a convenient place, away from the floor.

We have had quite a few raclets and currently have a Raclet Globetrotter, great units and very easy to look after....

We have an oil filled radiator in the house that we take with us when we go away, certainly takes the chill off, in fact overnight we never even have it fully on, normally just half, very effective they are in trailer tents.

I am feeling like a kid at Christmas at the moment ( sad I know) . In Feb we are going to take it down to my sis inlaws to have a practice setting it all up and checking everything out fully, as she has a big field. Prefer to check each inch before actually depending on it out camping

Not sure where you are located, but the Caravan, camping and motorhome show at the NEC Birmingham in February is fab. I got my first trailer tent last year and went to the one in October, good prices and found a few other bits to get for our new hobby!

We got the EHU with 3 in line, and now we sigh whenever we go to Go Outdoors that we should have got the three in a triangle. But after spending £40, we can't justify getting another one.
