We have the chance to purchase a Conway Tardis. Its not top condition granted, and yes its a bit dated - but reckon with a bit of TLC it could be made nicer.
We currently own an Compass Omega-2 van, but its not been off the drive in over 3 years and tbh I have fallen out of love with it. Its a nice van sited, but want to be able to tour now. Lost my confidence towing a van now so maybe a trailer will help me get back into it?
Last year we took the tent out twice and it was a lot of fun, but the idea of sleeping on the floor is losing its novelty and I prefer a bit more comfort now.
The Tardis looks ideal as we will be able to pack a lot into it and not have to play tetris when packing up a tent - we have a dog as well. She was very squashed on the way home last time poor thing and kept climbing into the back with the tent and getting stuck. Daft dog.
So am looking for others who have owned one/still own one and opinions on them before I part with the cash.
The Tardis is a great way to have the benefits of a caravan without the hassles of towing a larger unit. Because the beds slide out, they ensure plenty of space in the living area, for a relatively small footprint. The Tardis is quick to set up and a lot easier to do than a lot of folding campers / trailer tents due to the slide out beds and wind up roof.
Whilst there are some nice examples still around, the biggest downside with the Tardis is that it ceased production in 1987, so most models are around the 30 year old mark, or older, which means you have to be careful about what you're buying

------------- The one good thing about being wrong is the joy it brings to others..
We had the Conway Cardinal which is much the same and loved it. In fact, when we replaced it we just bought a newer one! Plenty of room (we were often 3 adults and a child)and you can use a normal porch awning if only going for a weekend as it has a standard awning rail. Ours had the pull out beds which were so easy. We never unpacked it (except for food and laundry) so it was always ready to go.
Thank you so much for that link Blue Sky Pennine - very helpful
Have told mate that yes we want it, just need to clear a space for it now so we can fully put up and check and do any maintenance on it ready for the off!
