I can't get trailer tents out of my mind!
Here's the story so far....
Since 2012 I have had three tents and one caravan. The van has been sold now and I have an inflatable five berth Vango.
I feel setting up by myself is taking too long and is putting me off camping. I can only get away at weekends now and for longer in the school holidays but for weekends, the set up time of doing the lot by myself with two arguing children is not practical.
This has now got me looking at trailer tents again. I always liked them before but was concerned about erecting it by myself. I have since heard of quick erect trailer tents and wondered if anybody had any views/opinions on these please?
I would greatly appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance

We had a Comanche Montana. It went up in no time - just open the lid and push up two poles. The only problem we found was that we needed to put up the awning for cooking equipment and that was time consuming and wouldn't be easy on your own.

Pressed the wrong button again. Right Raclet Quickstop Folding Camper - does exactly as it describes. The main Sleeping/Seating and cooking area all contained within the Folding Camper - awning is not required if it is weeknd stops - longer, then it probably is - as with all awnings that attach they can be a rear end pain. Many have adapted different style awnings on here that are far quicker to put up. I had a Kyham awning that fitted on the Quickstop I have, ideal for storage, table and wet gear.

This (scroll through Gallery to 17 and 18) any good?
More info here. Might not be big enough, though?

We had a a Raclet Quickstop which was great, no pegging required if you didn't want the awning up, about 30 mins in total if you did...
However, with two small kids (7 & 6 at that time) we found that when we went away for just one night if the weather wasn't that great there wasn't a huge amount of space without the awning - however the fact that it literally took less than 5 minutes to be set up made up for this.
We ended up getting a Raclet Globetrotter which is the big brother of the Quickstop, actually its full name is the Raclet Super Quickstop Globetrotter :)
This is great, still 5 mins to setup without the awning (about 30 with) but a huge amount of space inside the unit itself which means even if the weather is horrible there is enough space for the kids & us without resorting to sitting on the beds :)

We have had a Campet, a Jametic, and now a Combi Camp. I like the Combi Camp best, it is really easy to pitch and the cabin can be used without the awning if necessary. As a trailer though it is quite big and quite heavy. That said, we have the main awning, a side annex, a rear awning and all the kit for four adults, so once it truly is the two of us perhaps it will be a bit lighter!
Another we looked at was the Raclet Moovea, that was small and light and could have had a two berth annex added, but no kitchen. I believe the new Panama is similar and available with a kitchen.

I think you want something with no pegging and kitchen, furniture etc already inside. Try one of these such as the designer.

Might be worth a quick read of this to get an idea of the options; Choosing A Folding Camper Or Trailer Tent, What Are The Options?
Basically, to quickly summarise, there are 5 main types;
(1) Traditional trailer tents, which you already know are way too slow to set up.
(2) Pram hood style ones (like the Camp-lets, Trigano Odyssee, and Comanche Kenya)
(3) Combi-Camp style, which includes all Combi-Camp models, the Trigano Alpha and Comanche Motana.
(4) Four berth folding campers, such as the Pennine Aztec / Fiesta, Conway Countryman and Dandy Dart
(5) Six berth folding campers, like Pennine Pullman, Dandy Dimension and Conway Cruiser.
If you're going for a trailer tent that's quick and easy to set up, then you may want to consider the pram hood styles, as they are mid way between Combi-Camps and traditionals, time wise, but most are four berth, whereas the Combis tend to be be two berth only. Yes, of course, you can add on extra annexes etc, but then you're back to extra time and effort, which is what we're trying to avoid here.
Without knowing budget, it's difficult to make too many specific recommendations, but, as a couple of people have mentioned above, possibly worth looking at the folding campers, as well. I bought one of these for ease of setting up. because I work for myself, a lot of my breaks tend to be shorter periods, so I didn't want to be messing around setting up for hours, like I used to with my previous tents. 15 minutes, and I'm up and ready, plus another 30 or so for the awning, and that includes everything. The one problem with the quick set up trailer tents, which, again, I think has been mentioned above, is that you still need to set all the gear up. That said, it will depend on model. The new Combi-Camps have built in kitchen unit, as do the Camp-lets etc, but, again, it depends on budget. If you are looking at, say, an older Combi-Camp, then you will need to set up the kitchen etc yourself. With folding campers, ease of setup will vary, depending on age, model etc. Many of the Conways are easy to set up, for one, as the beds just slide out. Newer Pennine models are easier as they have gas assisted struts, but older ones can be heavy for one person, sometimes. Again, a lot of it will come down to what you have to spend, really, but plenty of options out there for pretty much any budget, if you know where to look.

Our Combi Camp has one king sized bed, but they also come as a two double bed configuration, which I think has been the standard layout for a few years. To add extra sleeping space the side annex is very little extra work, but the rear awning is more.
The Jametic or Trigano Oddyssee are the same style as the Camplet but bigger and heavier, and pitching is definitely a two person job. The Camplet being a bit smaller with a swing out kitchen can be done by one, but any wind and that gets challenging! It is however easily manoeuvrable by one, it's very small and light. The Combi I can pitch solo easily as its a series of smaller jobs rather than one big one, but I can't move it on my own. Best for storage was the Jametic, but that also gets the award for heaviest kitchen!
It really does depend on your priorities!

Alison

Yes, sorry, should have made that clear. Whilst a lot of the Combi-Camps are two berth, they have been doing 4 berth ones since the mid eighties. I think the 404 was the first. They brought out two together, in about 1984(ish) the 202 and the 404. Identical apart from the berths. 4 berth has been an option since then. Only slight issue with that is that, in order to achieve it, the beds are turned through 90 degrees, which means they intrude into the available floor space, which isn't ideal, if you're away without awning. Still a lovely unit though.

Hello,
We have a combi camp with the double bed and awning.
Very easy to put up, store and pull along.
A real bargain and a delight to take away on a whim.

Camplet. No brainer.
Light, easy to store and erect. Everything else I looked at seemed to be too much hassle.
