Myself and my wife have just bought a new pathfinder after owning a Sunncamp TT for a few years. Basically her back is a bit iffy and so with a pathfinder I can erect this pretty much on my own. It's an investment for the kids too for the next 10-15 years, to say we're excited is an understatement!
I wonder if anyone can recommend a leisure battery? I understand they are not provided as standard. We will aim to spend a few weekends in the UK and a two week holiday in France. Can you just hook it up to the mains on site? How's it work exactly?

You got a switch by the door which you put to either car or van. When you're towing you switch to car and the battery will be charged from your car. When you hook up switch to van and the hook up will keep the battery charged.
The best advice I can give you is go to a reputable caravan dealer and get a good leisure battery. It won't be cheap, but will last you years.
If you are going to be using hook up(EHU) there is no need to go to all the bother of partially opening up to flick the switch to charge battery when driving.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
The only real value of the driving hook up is to keep your fridge ticking over between moves ... otherwise, not much need for it ... at least ... none that we've found.
If you want to look after your leisure battery then recommend having a smart multi stage charger at home and leave it attached to that when not in use
Keep your eye out at Lidl / Aldi as they have their a couple of time s year for not a lot of money and these are fine.
As for battery, well if you are never going to use it without EHU then a smaller one will be fine like a 70ah one which will save money and weight compared to a larger heavier more expensive 85 / 100Ah one
If you are likely to rally or use non EHU sites then a larger one that still fits in the battery box is worth considering
Fitting quick release clamps for connection also worth doing and very easy DIY
Get your dealer to do you a deal on battery and get them to fit would be easiest option!
We got our pathfinder last year, we didn't bother with a battery at that time, What benefit is having a leisure battery if we only intend to camp with EHU?
I have none of the Lidl chargers and it is brilliant. It will take a long time to bring a battery up to full from very low but it does keep it ticking over and in good condition. I keep it plugged in to the mains in my garage.
------------- Give a man a fish and he'll feed his family for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he'll sit around on a boat all day drinking beer!
ttDave, Twice on sites with EHU we have had power cuts, we were gratefull of our Leisure battery then!

I thank you all for your responses. I think we will be buying one soon, purely for a back up if anything else. I also wonder whether the battery would run a mover attached to the wheels? It's a tight squeeze into our garage and up an incline too

You would indeed need a leisure battery to power a motor mover. You would also need to ensure it was powerful enough and well charged to sue that
The biggest advantage of having the leisure battery is that, when the campsite electrics go off line (which is a frequent occurrence in our experience in UK or Europe), you still have lights! Also, the water pump and toilet flush still works too!

hi kevimarr, just looked on ebay and tanya-batteries in abergele are selling a low height 110 amp leisure battery for £59.00 with 4yrs guarantee, i recently bought one of ebay for similar concerns to yourself of power cut whilst on a campsite, mine has been left on the trickle charger over winter to keep it topped up, if you do a search on ebay for 110amp leisure batteries it bring a good selection up at reasonable money and warranty. the higher amps of 110 would be more suited to using a motor mover,
