We've loved years of camping and have bigger poly and canvas tents of varying shapes and sizes, but my hubby became disabled 2 years ago and although he is still really active, sleeping on the ground on an air bed isn't comfortable any more so we are upgrading to a beautiful Dandy Destiny.
I say all this.... But we haven't actually seen the Dandy yet! We are viewing it with a view to buying it tomorrow! As long as it is a nice as the photos then we will be bringing it home with us :-) :-)
We have a destiny and its ace for our young family. I can put it up on my own without too many problems but you have to be aware of strong winds in case it catches the roof. Its a piece of cake with an extra pair of hands :-)
Well, we got it!!!!
I didn't realise three is a difference between a destiny and 6 though, ours is the 6.
It needs a little bit of TLC, nothing major- just aesthetics really. It's being picked up tomorrow and brough to its new home.
We've named her Delores :-) :-)
Congratulations on becoming a dandy owner. They are good aren't they. What year is yours.
It was called a 6 until about 1987 when the colour changed to light blue and white. These were known as lowside destiny. They had no fridge and the folded trailer was only about 3 feet high.
In about 1994 or 5 they brought out the high side destiny with a built in fridge. The sides were higher to give a higher fold height which could accommodate the fridge.
In 2003 they introduced the toilet destiny which was dark blue and white and had a toilet as well as a fridge.
That'll be a 1980s. There should be a date stamped on the A frame. Not the hitch part but the metal A frame. probably 4 digits for serial number followed by 2 digits and a letter. The last 2 digits are the year.
Masses of room aren't they. You can seat about 10 people in there without the awning.
Good luck, you won't need it. Don't forget to connect the strings from the pivoting support loop to the end of the bed boards before lifting the beds over.
Connect the strings to the buttons under the beds before you fold the bed over to open. The strings will pull U shaped roof bars up which lift the roof into position.
After lifting both beds, lift the door wall and open door to hold the wall up. Then lift the window wall.
Then remove the string from the button and push the U shaped roof support in and locate it on the wall sections.
The strings make it really easy.
If it's windy at all, point the tow bar towards where the wind is coming from. You can always turn it the way you want when its erected. Just lift the leg supports which only serve to stop the trailer tipping up.
Keep the roof pulled well over to the right looking at the door side. Don't let the roof sag too much in the middle.
Navver, we managed to get it up absolutely fine - piece of cake!
Getting it down however, we seemed to get in a bit of a muddle.
Do you connect the strings when collapsing it too? Also, does it matter which wall goes down first? The walls are a lot heavier than I had imagined!
We were very lucky - we had just walked back into the house at 4pm yesterday, and by 4.15 it was like a monsoon!
Well done.
Starting at the rear of the trailer, disconnect the bat wings and drop the bed end board not forgetting to fasten the bolt each side. Then pull the roof support bars back and connect the strings.
Then do the same at the towbar end.
Make sure the door is open.
Then drop the kitchen side wall and tidy up the PVC.
Then drop the door side wall by closing the door which will allow it to drop.
Use a roof bar clipped into the fixing saddle, if necessary to drop walls.
Lift the rear bed over first, pulling the roof back with your rear hand to stop it drooping too much and keep it out of the way.
Lift the towbar end bed over by pulling on the roof and catching the bed just before it folds over.
The roof supports can just drop as you lift the beds over.
Yes the walls are heavy, it helps to have 2 people, also use a roof bar to lift them from the opposite side.
You can fit gas struts on the side walls which makes it a lot easier. Two struts per wall.
