Hi we have a 1988 Conway Tardis and we are desperately trying to find out which size inverter we would need to run a small Electrolux fridge a water pump and 3small strip lights?

Someone did email to say that they had manuals at work but sadly I still don't have them,

Regards

If you think about it,every ampere used at 240 v would take
20 amps from a 12v battery if the inverter was 100℅ efficient, which is impossible. A 240v fridge would flatten the battery very quickly. Water pumps are 12v so need no inverter. For 240v tungsten strip lights, just take the wattage as a guide, older fluorescents though use more than the lamp wattage.

Hi

Thank you at the moment the fridge runs on gas or leisure battery, so will a 1000W inverter do?
Regards

How are you going to keep your leisure battery charged? An average 3 way fridge run through an inverter will drain a leisure battery in a matter of hours (won't do much better on 12 volt either). You'll have to have some massive solar panels to keep up with the demand or use EHU in which case, what's the point of the inverter?

About 60 watts for a fridge plus lights, say another 60 for lights, double it because inverters are inefficient and add a bit for luck. So, a 300w one would do. Assuming a very good inverter is 80% efficient (complicated because they use power even when not supplying power) then your fridge and lights would draw 12.5 amps, which is 8 hours from a good fully charged 100 ah battery which itself was 100 % efficient. Lots of assumptions here I know, but you could probably eek out a couple of nights if the fridge isn't working too hard.
Solar panels help, but when it's sunny and they are working well, your fridge will be working harder too.

If you mean the 3way fridge then you will have to run this on gas if you are not on ehu. It only runs on 12v direct from car battery when towing with both cables connected to car. It is not wired to run off camper leisure battery & cannot be run like that. It is not feasable to run it from an inverter.

Provided your leisure battery is fully charged when arriving at campsite which it should be as it is charged from car by the 12s grey cable then with careful use it should run water pump & lighting for several days. It is also a good idea to get a couple of battery led lanterns. You can run fridge continuously for a week on less than 3kg of gas.

Is the fridge the original 3way as installed in camper, does it work ok on 230v mains & gas, have you tried it?

We used to have a Gas/12v fridge.

You were meant to run it on Gas and only run it on 12v when you were towing and the 12v power came directly from the alternator on the car. It was never meant to be run on 12v from the van battery.

If the fridge you have is a 3 way fridge, IE Gas/240v/12v, then the mains electric (240v) should only be used if you are on a Mains Hook-up. To attempt to run it from a 12v battery through an Inverter would flatten your battery in less than an hour.

Just had a look round, and current draw seems to be about half an amp for the average fridge on 240v,so that is roughly 10 amps divided by the efficiency of the inverter,so maybe 12 amps. If the fridge is on half of the time, you could eek out a weekend, after all,it should be empty come packing up time after all.

I had a run of bad health but getting over it now, thanks for asking.

Just starting to get the van ready for heading off. Not much to do to it this year so a couple of weeks should have it ship shape.

Looking forward to some hazy lazy days of summer.
