Agree with Sunshinetours.
The sturdiest/heaviest locks/chains etc you can afford/carry.
Certainly lock them together, but preferably to something else too, be that a chunky tree, sturdy railings, tow hitch/A Frame, or of course, the bike carrier itself.
Personally, as a tenter with no A frame, ours get stored the same way as they get transported, chained and padlocked (an alarmed one, in our case) to the tow bar mounted carrier, which in itself is locked to the tow ball...
Out of sight is good too, of course, but if it's a straight choice between well chained but in view v not so secure but out of sight, my preference is the former... particularly with that alarmed padlock!
