Has anyone used the Towsure Powerstation for camping?
I want a source of electricity in my trailer tent to power a small oil filled radiator and charge phones/iPads and wondered if this might solve my problem. I'm considering getting two, one for the heater and one for charging devices and possibly giving a coolbox a boost.
(The powerstation wouldn't be used for jumping a car)
I don't camp on sites with EHU so that's not an option and I don't really trust gas camping heaters. I'm not sure about a genorator, they seem rather antisocial. I've thought about a leisure battery but I'm not electrically minded and am a bit scared of all the wiring and how to charge it.
We got the Halford's one based on this survey and it's been very good, so far.
Not tried running a heater on it through the night, though.
Ask Halfords?
I had a similar power station which I used on my boat to power a (very) small TV. It lasted about 2 hours before completely flattening the battery. Needless to say it didn't last long before completely packing up.
These units are fine for emergency 12v lighting, mobile phone charging or suchlike but not for any sort of heating or cooling device which are just too demanding and which could easily drain the power station battery in a couple of hours or so.
Why not charge phones and the like from the car battery or give in and find a site with EHU?
I've only used it for pumping tyres, and starting from a flat battery.
Plan to use on hol for inflating kayaks, too.
Last year, had a flat when about to leave campsite ... rescued by a dutchman (always well prepared, the Dutch!) with a power staion ... inflated tyre enough to get to a garage.
Is what persuaded me to get one.
Good working light on it, too.
Hmm doesn't sound like it'll do the job then although might be ok just for the devices.
Arrrgh I've been going round this circle for a year now! There has to be a safe way of heating a tent off hook up!!
JuneR101, hook up is not an option for most of my camping trips, I go to a lot of folk festivals which are often located on school sites or rugby fields.
Thanks for the replies! I think I've solved my heating problems, Kampa make a mini cabinet gas heater which I think will work well in the awning. Obviously it will have to be used responsibly and not left on overnight but several websites seem to sell them as awning heaters so I'll give it a go.
Maplin suggested a big power pack for all the devices so I might try that.
Why is it so complicated?! They should make kits aimed at electrical idiots like me!
