After a weekend camp in our olympe we had packed up to come home and started winding up the corner steadies. Three of them went up no problem but one was stiff at first then started turning with a horrible squealing sound. About halfway up it lost traction and the leg fell downward.
A look underneath showed that the long bolt had come out of the far hole so we popped it back in but no matter what we tried it would not work - the bolt appeared to have no grip.
Compared to the other legs we can see no difference (nothing obvious missing) and the only difference is it will not stay in the far hole. Why is this? Can we fix it or does it need to go to a repair centre?
We are baffled! tied it up with cord and duct tape to get home.
Thanks for the reply. Cos TT is fairly new (only had it a year) we have decided to phone Blacks Country Caravans (where we bought it) and ask their advice, they should be able to tell us what happened and why (in case it was user error) hopefully they'll fix it too. My Dad used to be an engineer (long retired!) and even he's baffled!
It sounds like the nut bit fixed into leg has lost its thread causing winding spindle to just rotate in it. I don't know if your trailer has the standard Al-ko steadies, if it does then these nuts are replaceable using tools & some effort. Otherwise a new leg sounds best bet. If its only a yr old, a warranty job, possibly?
Thanks for your advice Billy x and sorry for late reply and no pic.
The thread on the screw/bolt going sounds like a possibility. The Husband phoned BCC who suggested we take it in for them to look at, which we will do on our next free weekend. Will post what the verdict is incase others suffer a similar problem.
