Looking for tow bar quotes in Bolton! Friends are kindly selling us their Trigano trailer tent, but obviously need the bar. We have had quotes £220+! Is that reasonable? Any advice would be appreciated.

Sincerely,

Dave

Depends on what tow bar, fixed, swan neck, or detachable the most expensive. Single or twin electrics? Or thirteen pin.
It what you have asked for, you may need dedicated electrics which pushes up the price although this is car dependant .

We paid £300 our last car to have single electric flange towbar fitted.

This time round I bought a new witter towbar with electrics off eBay for £70 and fitted it myself......

Rather spend a couple of hours and have the £200 odd to spend on other camping accessories :)

£220 sounds good.

Bought our Camper a couple of months ago, weve spent that long searching for quotes that the towbar is only getting fit tomorrow, £215 single 7 pin electrics, (+£10 for the number plate) quotes I had varied up to £300+, god only knows what twin or 13pin would have cost us.

You also need to take into account the cost of the number plate, some quotes we had included one.

As we'll be primarily using EHU I didn't see the need to be able to charge the battery on the move, as for the fridge, it'll be left open during storage and I'm not opening the camper up just to close the door, so we wont need twin electrics for running that either.

In this modern age it is best to go for dedicated electric and Single 13pin Socket.

7 pin sockets are not as secure as 13pin, even if just towing a Trailer I would still go for 13pin.

Dedicated electrics rather than the cheaper relay lash up, will allow your car's management system to be activated.

A good fitter will have the £2k's worth of computer kit to program the system, otherwise they will need to get a main dealer to do the programming bit, and pay the £50 fee!

Stuff like Stop/Start and Rear Parking Sensors will be deactivated when towing, and the car alarm will be integrated into the 13pin connection.

Even more important is if the car is on lease (company vehicle) or still under warranty, if you don't have the dedicated wiring fitted, then there could be warranty issues.

Back in the day, I would fit my own towbar, all you needed was a fist full of scotch lock connectors and a spanner, those days are now long gone.
