In this modern age it is best to go for dedicated electric and Single 13pin Socket.
7 pin sockets are not as secure as 13pin, even if just towing a Trailer I would still go for 13pin.
Dedicated electrics rather than the cheaper relay lash up, will allow your car's management system to be activated.
A good fitter will have the £2k's worth of computer kit to program the system, otherwise they will need to get a main dealer to do the programming bit, and pay the £50 fee!
Stuff like Stop/Start and Rear Parking Sensors will be deactivated when towing, and the car alarm will be integrated into the 13pin connection.
Even more important is if the car is on lease (company vehicle) or still under warranty, if you don't have the dedicated wiring fitted, then there could be warranty issues.
Back in the day, I would fit my own towbar, all you needed was a fist full of scotch lock connectors and a spanner, those days are now long gone.
