An unbraked trailer should have a safety chain, it's a legal requirement. A breakaway cable should only be fitted to a braked trailer. If yours does not have one fitted you can buy them from a trailer parts supplier or search online for supplier.
Most hitchlocks can be fitted when trailer is coupled to car, so you can secure it when unattended. If yours cannot then a long bike lock would do the job to secure trailer if you stopped at services, or whatever.
Chain is normally bolted to trailer & is looped around hitch & hooked back on itself. It can be a cable, not a chain but not a caravan breakaway cable, thats too thin. Some here.
You need box type hitch lock that will lock to car, this or similar. Or just get a long cable bike lock & lock trailer to hitch.
Hi littlepaws. Most parks we have been to don't charge for the trailer as an extra (we have one too)but you may find one that's the exception. We usually put it way out of the way as to not take up any other persons space and place locks on to secure it(as Billy advised earlier). But if you do have to pay this is usually very very nominal, say £1 per day.........
Littlepaws you could also purchase one of these locks, it stops the handle being lifted on the hitch therefore the trailer cannot be taken off the car or hitched onto a towball when fitted. Obviously it does not stop somebody removing the bolts that hold the hitch on the A frame.Lock
That incorrect uv been told I thought you had to attach it via the hole in your tow bar, if you tow ball fails it will come off , I'm going on the info what Kia/towsure has told me :/
