We have owned our Pathfinder for over 12 years and have always taken good care of it, On our last trip I noticed a small hole in the our awning valance shade piece, when I touched it the canvas crumbled away in my hand leaving an orange size hole, this appears to be the only part that is effected, the remainder of the awning is other wise in good condition and is completely waterproof,As this part is only cosmetic I had the idea of glueing a piece in using one of the repair kits that are available,This would be an alternative to a very expensive professional repair or replacement.Do you think that I am wasting my time or should try something else any views or ideas would be welcome.

TVS sell pieces of canvas, I have just got some to repair a small area which the mice have chewed!!!!

I intend to put bondaweb on one side of the patch then lightly iron it on, then do the same the other side of the hole with another patch, then stitch with sewing machine.

This will give a seam which will not fray.

A job for this week!

I think patching would be fine .... the crumbling sounds like some sort of fungal or acid attack .... make sure you cut out all the affected area and leave none behind.
Good luck!

I think TVS referred to is probably:

www.tentvaletingservices.co.uk

If no luck then try these people. We had a Conway repaired by them and the colour match was perfect. They may be able to supply a small offcut.

yes, TVS is Tent Valeting Services in Bradford.
Sorry to make clearer in first place, their name/initials are mentioned many times on this forum.

Apologies.

Many thanks for the replies and info. After giving it a bit of thought I have taken the awning to The canvas repair centre in Burton They Quoted me roughly £200 including VAT for a new shade piece it sounds rather expensive, but it will be done properly and if I can get another 2 or 3 years of use out of the awning, it should be worth the money, When I took the awning in they said that about 15 years was the life of canvas,I was really surprised and thought that canvas would last much longer than that. They also quoted me on a complete cabin and awning canvas for £1800 including VAT,
Thanks again for the replies.

Have just patch repaired 3 small mouse chewed holes in the awning valance, 3", 2" patches and 3" length covered again with white bias binding edging.

the colour is a little darker than the faded canvas, but as the unit is 15yrs old I am not bothered. Rather patch than mouse damage!

I used a small domestic sewing machine and strong, colour thread.
Just in case someone reads this and is considering doing the same.
