Hi all, if anyone can help me, a complete novice I'd really appreciate it. I have searched this forum and read many posts but still am very confused.
Recently purchased a second hand 2005 Pennine Pullan 535 Folding Camper and after getting it out at the time the internal light worked. Now I'm ready to start to get to grips with it and have it out again a few weeks later I don't appear to have any battery power. I appreciate from reading the posts it's a bad idea to allow the battery to go flat and I may have damaged it but I would like to see if I can re-charge the battery first.
I have the FC on my drive at home;
Can I try and recharge the leisure battery from my home electrical power? I cannot find any cable in the FC that would go from a standard home socket to the round socket next to the battery (do I need to buy one/is that possible?)
The Leisure battery says "Platinum Leisure" on the side and inside the FC there is a Pennine Leisure Sargent PSU 2005 device with circuit breakers on and a red switch that is labelled 'Charger'. Is this a smart type charger that will charge the battery from flat?
You need an electric hook up (EHU) cable and a plug adaptor (caravan plug to mains). You can then have a go at charging the battery. You will need these anyway when on a site with hook up. New batteries aren't that much. I had to buy a new one when I got my camper as the previous owner had never used the battery and it was not holding charge.
Most caravan shops will have everything that you need!
thanks ashy55, I have a electric hook up cable I think. I have a long cable with the round connectors at each end so I'm presuming that is the EHU. So then I need to buy a caravan plus to mains adapater... super thanks.
anyone know if I just plug this in and leave it, does it shut off when fully charge and how do I monitor the level, is that done from the meter inside the FC which has the Van/Car switch on it?
It is a smart charger. The PSU 2005 is a fully integrated unit that controls battery charging, 240V power and 12V power via a built on transformer. There should be a small battery meter in between the two 12V switches under the wardrobe, which will give you a guide as to charge levels.

Yes ... plug in ... switch on the red power/charger switch on the Sargent .... then switch the switch under the wardrobe to van .... battery should charge.
Ok thanks for your help all. I've got a Uk mains to caravan converter coming today so I'll plug in and see. How will I be able to tell if it charging or not, is this from the gauge next to the Car/Van switch going up?
Actually .... I think the car/van switch is to charge either the car battery from the van battery, or vice versa ... I usually have it in the neutral position .... but I think our leisure battery no longer holds any charge ... we never use it ... always EHU or fridge powered by car whilst towing.
The Leisure Battery is charged via the Sargent board.

I know this is a old post, but will this apply to a 97/98 pullman as well???
In broad terms, it should apply to most post 1996 Pullmans, which is when they became the Pullman 535 and the electrics were standardised. Some will still vary, but you should find that most will be the same as this.
