I am about to buy a 2006 Conway Continental folding camper, which has never had a fridge or electrics installed (at the request of the person who bought it new)
Can anyone tell me what model fridge is fitted in these?, as I am looking into fitting one. I am also considering fitting electrics, so if anyone can tell me what is involved in this I would be grateful (although I may just make do with a hook up lead and extensions)
Thanks,
Russ

We have had a Continental FC since '07, but as we already had a hook-up with rcd & a 3 way 35ltr chest fridge we have never considered fitting mains or a "proper" fridge. If either dies on us it is going to no hassle to find a replacement.

When just using the cabin we put the fridge on top of the cupboard on the lhs as you enter & when the awning is up we stick it in there.

This doesn't really help you, but I know some people have fitted electrics & hopefully they'll come along to be more helpful.

Hi there. I fitted 240v ehu in my folding camper. You can buy a generic kit with all you need from any reputable caravan shop for about £60 I think.

I cheated by downloading a set of instructions then buying 2nd hand from ebay, but to be honest, I didn't save much in the end.

The kit is relatively easy to fit if you are confident and a competent at diy. There is no ring main, like at home. Caravans use a simple radial circuit, I believe.

Hope this helps! Panda.

The Continental was not supplied with a fridge or any 230v supply, the idea being that owners would be moving on from a tent and would already have a mains hook up cable and a cool box.
The cupboards would need a bit of modification and joinery to fit a fridge and holes made in the side wall for the fridge air inlet and vent.A lot of storage space would be lost.
I installed a mains supply on mine with with a 230v small consumer unit with 2 cbs and fitted 2 13A sockets, one on the bed end by the kitchen and one by the locker to the left of the door to supply a 3 way fridge sat on the top of the locker. The hook up inlet socket was screwed to the underside of the floor by the front right corner and a hole drilled through the floor to take the cable to the mains unit. Electrical components were sourced from Towsure.
I had plans for fitting an electric water pump but in the end stayed with the foot pump, I liked the squeak!

Afraid I can't agree with the last comment. Every Continental I have ever seen / worked on, from the mid 90's onwards, has had a fridge installed.

In 2006 (as with most of that period) the standard fridge of choice was the Dometic RM4200. This was definitely being used in 2002, and was still in used in 2010, so it's a fairly safe bet it was also being installed in 2006.

Also, all Cruisers made by Pennine (post 2003) had mains electric, to the best of my knowledge.

You can buy the mains installation kits quite cheaply these days, with everything you need. Not wishing to be patronising, as I apply this rule to myself as well, but, where mains electrics are concerned, I tend to work on the general rule that; if you have to ask, you probably shouldn't be doing it yourself.

When it comes to gas or mains electric, I, personally, always leave it to the experts (and I'm in the trade).

You're wrong on this occasion, the Pennine Continental FC we're talking about came out in '07. Same size - & canvas - as a Sterling, but on a lighter chassis with no fitted electrics & a foot pump.

It was meant as an economic step up from camping for those that already had most of the kit.

Agreed, on the post 2007 models, which is why I only made a comment on the last post, not the previous ones, as it implied that the Cruisers, generally, didn't have a fridge or electrics, and, of course, the one the OP is looking at is a 2006.

However, I was equally unclear in my response, as I didn't differentiate between the models either. The post 2007 were entry level models (logical, as, prior to that, they were too close to the Sterling to justify a separate model) but the 2006 and prior models (such as the one the OP is looking at) were fitted with fridge and electrics as standard. When I said the RM4200 was still in use in 2010, I meant that it was still being used by Pennine, rather than, specifically, in the Cruiser, and, therefore, it was likely that it would have been used in the 2006 models too.

Er, you're the only one mentioning Cruisers.

We have recently sold on our Pennine Aztec, same as the Conway Continental but with different badge. Anyway, as nice as 'proper' electrics would have been nice, we found a 'tent' EHU (with the three sockets on the end) more than adequate for our needs.

Having said that though, if you do go down that route, please do keep us informed with plenty of photos, as that'll bound to be help to someone in the future

PMSL!! That serves me right for not reading the OP properly.

Think I'll go and lie down in a darkened room.

Probably the only thing that is relevant in my responses is that Pennine were fitting the Dometic fridge into all models, so that's going to be the one most likely to fit.

Re: the fridge. If what you fit cannot be accessed without erecting the camper you may be better with a chest type you can carry in the car. This will make packing and unpacking so much easier.

We keep all camping kit in the camper and clothes food etc all go in the car.
