I have a Trigano Alpha TT (aka CombiCamp) that has a rack onto which you can fix bikes when closed. I would like to 'offset' the bikes from the centre of the rack, moving them closer to the car end. This leaves more space at the rear onto which I can strap chairs and other bits. By doing this I can avoid using a top box. We have 4 bikes.
I sense there may be risks in this with more weight on the towbar, but to be honest I'm not very well clued up on these things and would welcome any thoughts.
You need to distribute the weight as evenly as possible, and stay within your nose weight. We find we have to load our rack to the rear or the nose weight goes up to much, but the axel on the combicamp seems to be quite far back, so I suppose we load it over the axel really. I spent a bit of time moving things about on the patio and checking the nose weight before deciding where everything was going to go!
