Back in 2002, most of the models, the Fiesta included, used the blue and white internal colour scheme, so it is a possibility that an internally sprung mattress, from another model has been used. Not likely on the left hand bed, admittedly, as it needs to be the split mattress arrangement to make up the settee, but, if either of your mattresses are 6 inches thick, or so, and internally sprung, they wont be original to that model. It's the only thing I can think of, bearing in mind the sort of measurements you're talking about. If the leg sits 3" off the floor, my sleeping bag isn't 3" thick, and, bearing in mind you should have extra space allowance for bedding, as well, there's, clearly, something not quite right there.

Firstly; Phil, apologies, yes, hadn't thought of that colour scheme. That is actually the 2000 - 2001 scheme, but some did run over into 2002, and, yes, they are original, so no reason why it shouldn't close. I'm not too far from you, at all, in Redditch, so, if you would like me to have a look at it for you, I may be able to suss out what the issue is, cos, as I've said all along; they are supposed to shut with all bedding in place.
For both yourself and Potjoe; there is absolutely no need to unhook the bed pods every time you pack away. Again, they are designed to be left in place when packed away. The only exception to this is wet pack ups. Then you do take them down, so that you can put the wet pack up cover between them and the wet canvas. Otherwise, they can stay in place.
On all the Pennine models I tend to remove all curtains except the ones on the bedroom windows. This is mainly to avoid getting them creased, dirty or trapped in the mechanism, when closing. You can leave the bedroom curtains in place, if you want (the ones on curtain wire) but I tend to take them down, just to protect them.
