So we've picked up our Countryman and have a mover fitted. What is the easiest way to charge the leisure battery, preferably without having to open the camper up? Never had a leisure battery before. And how often do you put it on charge please? We won't be using it for another month or so, great British weather pending. Many thanks.

Mine is sitting in the garage on a Halfords charger being topped up. Make sure you get the correct charger for leisure battery.

There are two main options for charging. If you have an intelligent / trickle charger, you can leave it on constantly, but this is not recommended with a standard charger. Neither is it recommended that you allow the battery to discharge too much, as this will damage it.

If you don't have an intelligent charger, then the recommendation is that you give it a good charge once every 6 - 8 weeks.

When we had our FC, I made up a board with a spare towing socket, and wires out of the appropriate pins, to a couple of connectors. Then hooked up the FC to the socket and the charger to the connectors; saved the effort of opening up to get the battery out.

I use one made by Ring its called a Smart 8 it works great never had an issue

John, what motormover do you have fitted to your countryman? I'm wanting one for my 2010 Countryman and have been looking at all the options.

I've done everything back to front because Lidl had some battery chargers a couple of weeks back that have been mentioned on here as being worth the purchase so I've picked one up. Think it was £13.

We always remove our battery over winter. It stays in the garage and its checked monthly. We have never had to put in on charge for more than a couple of hours and then only once during the winter. The garage is attached to the house and it never gets below freezing so that may help.
Once the battery is in the camper we never need to recharge.

Thanks all. It's now plugged into the smart charger. Marshmallow we had a powrtouch evolution fitted. It wasn't cheap but it's brilliant. We have to get it up a tight drive on uneven ground and a slope in order to garage it and this has made it so simple. No more worries about bashing it or it running away from us.

Thank you for your reply. I contacted Powr directly but they said it wasn't a straight forward fit and they may need to do a visit to determine whether they had a model that was suitable, for which there would be an additional charge. They said different brackets may have to be made especially for my unit. I know movers are not cheap but it was starting to sound very expensive. Now looking at one of the Purpleline ones (either Titanium or Enduro 2) as I understand they fit on to folding campers.

Hello Marshmallow,
I think there are a few different makes and models that are compatible with FCs. Canterbury caravans fitted ours, it was the smallest in the range and they made brackets for it. They are used to putting them on FCs.
