Hi everyone,
Does anybody have first hand knowledge of how well a Ford Fiesta 1.0 litre (125 ps) ecoboost car will tow a folding camper similar to a pennine fiesta 580 kg (750kg max).
All the data says it will tow the weight of the camper, I was just wondering how well it does the job.
Thanks in advance, Steve.

I know someone who tows a dandy 6 gross weight 750kg with a Fiat Punto 1.2. It gets along well enough for him.

You need to check the cars data from your own sources such as a plate on the car or V5 log book or hand book. It can vary a lot especially when the word Eco is mentioned. Online matching sites can be wildly out with the data they hold.

about 20 years ago, I towed a freedom caravan 750kg gross weight with a metro diesel and it was fine except for pulling away on steep hills. Pottered along at a fairly steady 50mph on the motorway dropping to 40 on the hills.

Something to think about... Whilst your car might pull a FC when empty void of passengers, all's good.
Now imagine your small car filled with passengers luggage bedding and everything else bar the kitchen sink, all that weight not sure I like the sound of that from a safety point of view (keeping you safe) and so costly when that poor little engine blows (nobody needs bills that could of been prevented from a little advise)

Hope this helps

How well do you want it to tow? It will do 50mph on single carriageway & 60mph on the motorway, that's the towing speed limit in the UK. When you come to a hill you will have to change down, unless its auto box.

If you already have the car & you want to enjoy the benefits of a folding camper why should changing down a couple of gears on a hill stop you doing that?

Depends how you look at it. Those that drive at 80 in the outside lane in their repmobiles will say not enough power. Those who know about towing loads over 100s of miles at 55mph, ie 44tonne truck driver will say you have more than enough. If it's slow on hills, those behind can wait...

The future of the i.c engine is small, fuel efficient & turbocharged. Unlearn all you knew about "ya can't beat cubes".

As expected, two opposing views. My main reason for posting was to gain the opinion and views of an actual Fiesta owner who also tows a camper.
Thanks for all replies, and happy camping to all.
Cheers, Steve.

A different approach is to buy a dandy which is only 500kg fully loaded. Have a look.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgyOkXsXFVc

Can be used all year round. Insulated PVC not canvas so can be packed away and left wet unlike canvas.

You can get them from around £500 for an old one 1980s which will stull be going strong. I know of a smart car that tows one.

That's a bit of a worry, surely. The Smart car, in its standard format isn't type approved to tow. You can adapt them, with a rear mounted crash bar and tow ball, but, then, they are only recommended to tow 100kg with a passenger in the car, and 180kg without a passenger. A Dandy? How can that possibly be legal?

It would help if the op stated how well he wanted it to do the job. An actual Fiesta owner might be perfectly happy with the performance but the op might not be, so 2 opposing views from users of the same car. Refer back to my previous post. Forums exist to learn stuff from...
