Hi
We are trying to be a bit more self sufficent when away, so brought a 12v tv, how long on average should our leisure battery last we use lights and tv all else is gas.
we were away at weekend and leisure battery died on us,
are we expecting too much for lights & tv for a weekend.
How do we know how good our leisure battery is ? what is it's expected life span before renewal.
All advise more than welcome
Thank you

Hi
I have read this article and am more confused than ever, the tv we brought is a 12v – Cello C16230F, site quotes 1.1 amps on 12 volt DC.
So does this mean that on a 110ah battery I get 110 hours of tv?
At the weekend the leisure battery died on us, therfore we got hook up, recharged leisure battery, unplugged everything apart from tv and it only seemed to last for 5 hours ?
I am so confused
How can I test if the leisure battery is still functioning at full capacity or has it gone down with age ??
please help

In theory, you should, indeed, get 110 hours out of a 110Ah battery, BUT that assumes you are fully discharging it down to nothing. Bearing in mind it is never advisable to discharge a battery by more than 50%, that reduces your practical time down to 55 hours (which, of course, is way more than required for a weekend away).

The general rule is that; if you allow a leisure battery to discharge below 50%, it will never reach full charge again. If you allow if to discharge fully, especially for a while, it will need replacing. It sounds likely that yours is on its last legs, if it is discharging that quickly.

To find out how to test this, and a few of the basics of batteries (in a less confusing format) Google "Blue Sky Leisure Battery Introduction" which should clarify it for you.

It's 100 hundred hours,I despair of education these days!
100 hours of tv ,that's about 10 years worth!

Firstly every 12volt TV draws 2/3amps per hour. Then there is you 110 amp battery - you ONLY have 55amps to use as draw more than that and you will kill the battery 12.2volts and below and it will not recover and you will be ordering a new battery.
Then there is the charging after drawing the amps out - take out 10amps replace with at least 20amps to fully charge the battery.
So to answer your question 5 hours of tv = 3 x 5 = 15amps + TV aerial booster and lights and water pump and charging phones etc so say another 10amps over 5 hours = 25amps....... so you might get 2 days at most from a 110amp battery.

A good deep cycle battery is designed to discharge to 10% with no ill effects, but that doesn't mean it should be abused by leaving it discharged. Well worth looking at your lighting whilst you are sorting things out. Filament lamps are power hungry, and fluorescent tubes die very quickly on low voltage set ups,LED are the way forward imho.
My 19 inch tv down in the kids room takes less than 1.5 amps from the 12v supply,I imagine newer ones would be less.
