This may sound a stupid question - but as a tenter, I've noticed trailer tents amonst the caravan, with EHU etc, when I've been told that there are no EHU for tents - some sites even allow trailer tents  where they dont allow normal tents.
As trailer tent owners - do sites class you differently than normal tents - on a par with caravans?

Reason I ask is that we were thinking of saving for one - OH athritis is starting to kick in in colder weather on a more regular basis, and EHU would give the advantage of getting a better heater - and give us a longer season.

Never had any problem getting an ehu pitch. Usually able to put up the awning as most caravans have awnings but the main unit on ours isn't pegged enabling us to use a hardstanding pitch.

TTs & FCs often have a built in mains unit such as a ZIG, so the installation is similar to that of a caravan. I expect that is the thinking behind the site owners decisions.

Many sites classify trailer tents as a separate type of unit - there are sites that will not allow tents, but will allow TTs and FCs, there are also sites that are caravans only that will not accept TTS and FCs - it depends on the site really.  But I'm sure you will find there are plenty of sites that will accept mains in a TT or FC - my parents have had a FC with mains (a separate 'tent' type hook-up, not a permanantly fitted caravan type unit) for many years, and I've never heard of them having a problem using it.

hi bernie  i think trailer tents comes under the same insurance as caravans and folding campers on some campsites, where as tents need a separtate insurannce cover, we tryed to book a holiday at devon cliffs in our tent they told us they have stopped tents this year as they werent renewing the liscence on the tents, something to do with fire and safety regulations

At Riverside I was told that Motorhomes, Trailer Tents & Folding Campers were able to use the Caravan field with EHU, but that tents were not.

I had a tent with EHU for the last 3 years and did not have any problems getting a pitch on any site. I now have a TT but my brother in law still has a tent and he is finding it more difficult to book an EHU pitch, even on sites that allowed it last year, even finding some sites that no longer take any tents.

I have this wee mix up everytime I book for a meet..where it states "No EHU allowed in tents...cos in my mind my TT is a Tent...on wheels..and bigger than your average Tent...But still a TENT...Saying that..Ive never had a problem with..or been refused hook up since I started using it 3 yrs ago...I reckon owners of sites are maybe being over cautious...given the flamability of a lot of the new poly based tents...But I still carry a 12volt battery for lighting as back up..and my fridge will work on gas if the need arises.....

Jelboy.
