Hi, it's been a while since I last visited so hope you are all well.
We have developed a problem with the gas on our Pathfinder and would like to get your advice as to what to do.
Despite there being gas in the bottle, it isn't coming through to the unit. Research has suggested it may be the regulator that has clogged up. Where is the best place to buy a new regulator and hose and are we ok to fit this ourselves or does it need a qualified gas engineer?
We are only assuming it's the gas regulator as nothing else appears to be blocked but any suggestions would be welcome.
If you have access to a second, full gas bottle, suggest try that first.
We had a gas feed issue on our van last year, gas bottle had some gas in it, less than half full but no gas came past the regulator. Changed bottle to a full one and bingo.....
I had the same problem as Tony, changed the bottle and everything worked, a week later I was short of gas so tried the original bottle again and it worked without any problem!
Is your regulator the bulkhead mounted type? These were prone to problems and got gummed up easily. I expect most dealers sell these but prefer to fit them in their workshop so they can do a gas test as well.
Assuming it's a screw-on/in (as opposed to a fixed "bulkhead" one) regulator you should be able to replace hose and regulator for less than £10, at Towsure for example, but you probably have a nearer caravan/camping shop?
New Jubilee clips and a bowl of hot water to soften the ends of the hose before fitting and a few drops of washing-up liquid to check for leaks after fitting and you shouldn't have any problems.
Bulkhead one will cost about £40-50 easy to replace just don't over tighten and wrap a bit of gas quality ptfe tape round the threads then test for leaks but DONT use a flame use washing up liquid and water look for bubbles

seriously????
people use a flame to check for gas leaks????
darwinism at its best.
Yes because they believe the flame burns brighter when it gets near a leak . Not a good idea.
There will be no flames near my FC until I'm sure the gas is ok!
My research has continued and I'm reading a lot about truma and its issues and the alternative gaslow regulators, quite confused as to which would be a better option for us.

I do actually know a gas fitter that blew himself up looking for a leak with a match

If you have a Truma bulkhead mounted regulator odds are that is the problem. I speak from personal experience when our gas packed up while on site.
Easy to replace if your competent at DIY.
I shortened the fixed pipe so the regulator is mounted higher on the bulkhead and above the top of the gas bottle so now the pigtail goes uphill from the bottle.
I also changed the rubber pigtail to a steel braided one from Gaslow.
