Having recently purchased a new Conway countryman and the tow car having quite a small boot I was wondering how much stuff you can fit inside the countryman itself. We can get a certain amount of stuff in the boot but not loads so any help or advise would be fantastic please...

Hi
I'm not experienced (and this is my first time posting) but I know there is a thread on here somewhere that answers this exactly as I've read it myself. Perhaps try doing a search for the key words?
We have also just bought a Conway Countryman and have used it 3 times now. Each time, we are getting better at packing it away though it still takes me and my husband a little while to do so. We manage to get everything we need packed in it and there's still plenty of room. We leave all the bedding on (just strap it down), pillows and cushions in the under-sofa storage, sofa back fittings and wooden back boards in under-sofa storage that houses electrics, curtains and inner linings in the cupboard by the door (we leave the bed pod linings on), all kitchen equipment left in cupboards in sink area. Then that leaves the floor space for the water carriers (one each side of the kitchen end); the table (stands flat against the kitchen units); 2 chairs, sofa back cushions, wall shelf unit, curtain poles, small bin, camper step all on floor between the 2 sofas. We still have space left in this area. The awning and bed skirts all fit in a convenient space on the right hand side when the camper is folded up before the cover goes over. All tools, cables etc fit in the front panel where the gas bottle goes.
Phew!
The only thing we have to remember to do is leave space at the kitchen end (in the middle) to allow the steadying leg to swing down and stand on the floor when folded.
Hope this helps but remember - I am new to this! LOVE my camper though 😀

We also have a Countryman and was concerned with loading at first too, don't worry there is ample storage space and you should be able to get everything in you want. We have a Alfa Romeo Giulietta so also a small boot, we have 2 teenage girls and we also have a border collie he has the boot to himself apart from a small holdall we use to put coats in. Inside the trailer at the front we store the porta potti on the left on the right we have the water container 25ltr I think, then in-between these we store the kitchen display unit on its side and then lean the folding chairs against this. The rest of the floor space is then taken up with 4 quality 3 season sleeping bags and 4 holdall bags of clothes enough for a week and a further bag of towels t towels etc. All the crockery pans kettle toaster etc goes in the front cupboards and the awning and poles go in the off side seat box, groundsheet lamps fan heater extension leads in the nearside seat box. Pillows for 4 go on top of the nearside sofa. After all this we are left with the space on the offside along the top of the trailer at the worse we put the step here if the girls over pack their bags. So don't worry space is no problem with one of these. Just go and enjoy it ours is a 2005 we love it, in fact we love it so much we are now thinking of buying a brand new Countryman, we did think about a Cruiser but for us the Countryman is best as it fits in the garage

I have a question about the table and storage shelf. We've always laid these flat on the floor between the seats and without any instructions to check against is there a better way? Should the shelf be stored on its side to avoid damaging it?

we put ours on the floor you probably could stand it up against the kitchen and use pillows etc around it to avoid damage, I think the Fiesta has storage locators in front of the seat box for it im not sure why the Countryman don't but im sure someone here will know

Reading this thread with interest as we are the new owners of a Pennine Fiesta, and have been told that we can leave all bedding in the camper and there is quite a fair amount of space to fit other things in when you fold the camper up. Not sure where we will put pillows but might get some of those vacuum bags that you roll the air out of so that we can maybe get the pillows and cushions in the storage areas.

I am in the process of getting things to kit out the kitchen cupboards, so that we can be away at a moment's notice without having to scramble around collecting all the essentials, just a case of sorting out our personal necessities and clothes which doesn't take long.

Interesting to read how other people find space for their gear, too.

I do exactly as richardandjo2010 suggested - stand the table on its side against the kitchen units with a couple of cushions behind to stop it banging against the cupboards. It's held in place in front of it by my water carriers - one at each end and the actual bed pods when they fold seem to hold it still. The shelf unit I still lay flat in the middle at the moment but still playing about with best options.

We place heavy items such as table and kitchen shelves etc on the floor over the axle. This stops any problem with too much weight on the tow bar. We always check the tow ball weight at the start of each season. Its so easy to have too much weight on the towball. We have found just one extra item at the draw bar end can increase the weight quite considerably. It might seem a little cautious but too much weight at the front can make the trailer unstable at speed. Just beacause everything can be crammed In doesnt mean its safe to do so. Care should be taken not to exceed the total laden weight permissible has this can also cause stability problems.
