We've tried all three!
Your young children won't always need close supervision, but you will always need space as they grow, especially if its raining. You won't always be erecting the awning on your own...........
We are at the other end of the age camping spectrum,only 2 of us one being 83yrs and although fit has reduced movement due to shoulder injuries, I'm in my mid 60's fit and able, but the erection of the awning falls on me. We have invested in all three ideas to work out the best system for us.
When we had the Sterling we bought a smaller outdoor revolution which I adapted with a bought zip from TVS - the photo is on my gallery. Being nylon it got hotter inside than the canvas. It was OK, but not as spacious.
Because of the apex shape of the FC roof, it differs from a caravan roof shape I'm not sure a full caravan awning could be adapted.
We now have a 2006 Pathfinder FC, the awning came with Carbon poles.
Recently invested in a Pennine Air Awning, - according to the adverts it's only compatible with Crusader or Pathfinder i'ts a compromise between an adapted awning (smaller) and the full awning.
We like it very much i'ts easy to erect and much larger floor space than the adapted one.
I prefer to prep and cook in the awning, especially when the grandchildren are with us. The space in the FC gets cramped with kids!!!
Original = canvas and space
Adapted = nylon and less space for growing children
Whichever awning you choose its worth investing in a lightweight 2 step 'ladder', easier to reach the apex!
