Hi, just had a thought, we are going away for the first time in our Fiesta Q2+2 this weekend and I was wondering about the fridge. Can I turn it on the night before? Just thinking with the transit cover in place it covers the top vent of the fridge? Is this an issue on electric?
Is there a lower vent also? My Pathfinder had 2 vents for the fridge, but the Fiesta only seems to have one on the front above the gas locker.
I cant be certain but I don't see why not, we never use ours like that we have a cool box and load it with essentials we only go in the UK so everything remains cool on our travels. We don't open our camper up once home from a trip, if you travel with it on when you get home and switch the fridge off, it will develop water in the drip tray so you will need to open it up
------------- its our imperfections that makes us perfect
I have powered up the fridge on our FQ 2+2 the night before with no problems- overnight temperatures in the UK are not usually an issue. I always leave the cover loose at the front corners and wedge a sponge in each side of the cover to help with ventilation. You will find a lower vent in the floor under the fridge (covered with a fine mesh)
I had a look in the handbook I received when I purchased our fiesta 2 plus 2 2014 model.
It does not directly address the specific query but under the fault finder there is a point " the fridge does not get cold" and one of the solutions is insufficient ventilation.
Within the handbook they also talk about putting winter covers on in extreme temperatures to reduce the ventilation.
The above seems to suggest to me that ventilation is key to the proper functioning of the fridge and running it from the mains with no ventilation would affect the performance.
I guess running it off the tow car battery (12 volts) which only maintains and does not cool down the temperature does not require the same ventilation.
We just returned from quite a long trip and it always worried me that when you roll down the cover and store it across the front it can block the fridge vents, I always tried to pull if forward away from the vents but perhaps it is just me being anal!
Just a thought if you are thinking about hooking up your unit to the mains the night before....I did this a few weeks ago and hadn't realised that I had accidentally switched on the plinth heater as I positioned the awning inside over the axle. Luckily I opened the rear door to put the step inside about 20 minutes later and heard it blowing (and felt the heat).Best to unplug the heater from it's socket under the bench seat when you leave site to be safe.
"Unplug the heater" so simple and straightforward and brilliant.
A couple of times I found the switches on where the edge of the table had pressed them even with a cushion positioned to try and stop it happening.
