Hello all, I am new on the forums and been trawling through past posts and can't quite find the answer to my questions and hope someone can help.

We have always camped but are now looking at investing in a trailer tent. I have done a lot of research and have a few must haves, I need to be able to erect it single handedly, it needs to sleep 4 comfortable (sisters in a campervan pop top bed were too close together) and it must have mesh door options on the outer doors as we camp on the west coast.

Camp let seems to tick many boxes and the beds look like they are 5ft across, can that be right? But I can't find a sensible answer on midge doors. Combi camps look easy but the beds seem narrow and they are hard to come by. Opus interests me but the price tag is pretty high!


The caravaning show in Glasgow in Feb does not seem to have TT exhibitors in the past and there are no other Scottish dealers to see any in action.

Any advice or tips or recommendations welcome :)

5ft wide on a camplet does sound big. I'd be suprised. I'd always considered them to be smaller options.

You may want to consider a Trigano Alpha. They are based on the same design as the CombiCamp ie : hard lid, easy to erect and modular. It has a King size slatted bed, and an optional rear awning in which you can put a double bedroom. My 12 and 14 year old girls just spent two weeks in there quite happily on our trip to france. We have an airbed which fits it inch perfect.For stopovers, they just sleep in the main compartment on the floor next to the bed. At some point they'll probably have their own tents and we won't bother fixing the rear awning. TT will be up in minutes then.

Front sun awning can remain zipped on when packed away. Other advantages are great storage under the bed, and in the front box. Kitchen is excellent too.....everything in place including a fridge whch means nothing to pack when you upsticks and go. I can also attach 4 x back racks to the lid all of which stay on when I put the tent up (needs optional cross bars). Again, keeps things simple.

Like combi-camps they are rare second hand. I went to Holland to get mine. For info I noticed one on Ebay with all the awning options. Search for Trigano Alpha on 'completed auctions' you'll see it finished on August 6th. Don't think it sold.

Holtkampers are lovely but pricey. We've had our Alpha for 3 years now and previously a Cabanon Neptune. That was far more difficult to erect. Really pleased with our move. Have fun looking.

Surprisingly, the Camp-let beds are 160cm, wide, which equates to 5'3".

They are one of a very small minority who, also, have fly screens on the outer doors. Camp-let refer to these as; 'ventilation fronts' and they are a relatively new option, for 2015.

Opus are, of course, a folding camper, rather than a trailer tent, and, hence, the extra price tag.

By the sounds of it, Camp-let are the way to go. Quick and easy to set up, huge beds and fly screens. You'll struggle to find that combination anywhere else.

Camplets do have lovely wide comfy beds. Very easy to pitch single handed, mine doesn't have fly screens on the doors but it is a 2010 model.
