I'm off to Shell Island for the closing down 'ceremony' and fireworks etc. Shell Island can be a chilly place, in the Summer, and there's no EHU, so it should be interesting.
I suspect that will be my last one of the season. Main tip for a stress free holiday is to do as I say, not as I do, and make sure you go somewhere with EHU so that you have plenty of stuff to keep the kids entertained and warm, whilst away.
------------- The one good thing about being wrong is the joy it brings to others..
I'm off to the hideaway at baxby manner first time there.. I'm actually having man time with my oldest son so well be out walking fishing and having a few beers round the fire Pitt to keep warm!!! To keep your kids happy if the weather isn't good get some old board games..they will probably think your mad,,the things kids use now...but I bet they will have more fun!!
Yep, I'm in. Off to Suffolk in "Penny" our FC. Will probably be our last one this year as I'm very aware of trying to avoid damp pack aways and it's very damp in the mornings now which takes a long while to dry off. Luckily, where we're going, there's no departure time so we can wait for the sun (the forecast at the moment is for sun) to do it's job throughout the day before we have to pack away. We have only had our FC since April and used her every other weekend so far with no damp pack ups as it's been such a glorious summer - fingers crossed we're ok for this last one too.
Well, we certainly now know our camper is waterproof....and that a hardstanding is worth paying a few quid more for when the British weather is at it's best!
CCC site in Charmouth was lovely with plenty to entertain the children when the weather allowed, we learnt a lot about using the camper and the heater proved a revelation, on it's lowest setting taking the nip out of the air. We were given a tip that Argos value duvets were great value so bought 2 13.5 tog ones for £16 odd, we'll never go back to bags now, slept like logs all night.
Camper is now drying off ready to be packed away for next years adventures!
Just come back from the Mendips (Bucklegrove holiday park) in our pathfinder. Fully serviced pitch stopped any cold/wet trips to the taps/drains and a good EHU meant the plinth heater and coffee machine could run at the same time.
Good site for October, a small heated indoor pool, a bar and only 10 min drive from cheddar gorge.
Used the new air porch awning - very handy for this kind of break. Showed how good the Isocryl material is though - the folding camper was virtually dry when we packed up whereas the air awning was soaking wet. But at least the air awning is easy to set up at home to dry (attached the three clips to our climbing frame and pumped it up - job done.
Best wishes to all families heading out at half term.
There was a time when we would have done the same. Those times are long gone now though. Being retired now we avoid school holidays, and are too warm and cosy indoors. Time to catch up with all those indoor jobs that we have neglected while having outdoor fun in the summer time. Will be winterising our caravan soon, before the frosts come.

Best to winterise it soon Colin ,the Daily Mail has come out with it's annual prediction of ice age conditions next week. The possibility is, they will get it right one year.
