Hi

I'm looking into purchasing a mini oven but I don't know how to work out what wattage would be ok for campsites without blowing trip switch. Does anyone know or could point me in the right direction? I've seen some 1600w - 2000w but having camped for several years I know a lot of sites only have a hook up of 10.

Reason I'm looking is we are moving up from a tent to folding camper and it doesn't have an oven.

Watts = volts x amps
Watts/volts = amps

Therefore, 2000 watts / 230 volts = 8.7 amps

This should be OK if the EHU was 10 amp and you had no other appliance on.

Some general advice I gained from this forum: only have 1 electrical appliance that creates heat, for example kettle, heater or oven, on at any one time otherwise you are in danger of blowing the fuse / tripping the circuit.

We had the very small Quest mini oven.........and its mini!

Bought a Lidl oven about the size of a large microwave, maybe a little larger and its brilliant, but as everyone says you can't have the kettle and oven or heater on at the same time it blows the fuse.

Check out this page. Towards the bottom is a conversion chart for watts to amps. Print it off and take it with you for reference.

Basically all electrical appliances will have their wattage stamped on them somewhere. You need to convert that to amps. You can use several appliances together providing the total amps do not exceed the campsite supply. You may find in any case that your EHU unit is only rated up to 10 amps anyway, so if you work to 10 amps you can't go wrong.

You may find it easier to mark on your appliances what amps they draw with a marker pen so you don't forget.

Mini ovens are ideal for camping because they toast, grill, bake, and you can also boil or heat things like tinned peas using a foil dish. I have a small mini oven, a mini hob, electric kettle, and also take a toaster, and a fan heater of course, but because I usually camp solo I tend to eat in pubs and restaurants as I can't be bothered cooking and washing up

Morning Everyone, thank you, that's all really really helpful including ideas and links! 😊 I read through links, will definitely print out the listings it will help with all electrics going forward and remembering not to have two 'hot' appliances on at the same time again never thought of that, but it makes sense. Hi

I have a halogen oven that I use in the awning on a table. I couldn't tell you what wattage it is but have never had a problem with the electric when using it, I just make sure its the only thing plugged in.
