Hi all, I now have a very nice combi camp sport which I plan to tow behind my trike. I have seen some older combi camps with brakes and would like to fit brakes to mine. However I can't find any brake drums to fit my 8" wheels. Has anyone with an older style combi confirm what size wheels and brakes they have. Thanks
You only need drum brakes on a trailer if it's over a certain weight that's why there are no brakes fitted as standard as the trailer is a Sport model and not heavy enough to require them.

While I appreciate you taking the time to reply a more constructive answer would help more. Please read my post again. It doesn't say " Do I need brakes"
Thanks
Tango55, maybe my reply was a little harsh. So I'll apologise for that. Although my Combi has a GVW of 300 kg. When behind a trike it will push the trike during hard breaking. There has been a couple of old orange combi camps with over run brakes. As I can't find any info on the net I was interested in what wheel size these campers have. The weight you refer to is 750kgs before brakes are required. I'm guessing that weight would push a small car.
Thanks again
Thanks for the link. I have looked at a couple of trailer places but can't find what I want. I phoned combi camp who confirmed that combi did once put brakes on the lighter trailers. They had 16.5x 8 wheels so they exist. What I need is a scrap combi with brakes I can swap the chassis. I have a brakes chassis with 10" wheels but that leaves no clearance under the trailed. Any advice appreciated. As I have said before. I'm pulling it with a trike and it will push the trike during heavy breaking. Thanks
Dandy campers all have brakes and I think they start at about 300kg. I've seen a photo of a trike towing one.
I agree with you about needing brakes. I certainly wouldn't like to go down a long steep hill with 750kg behind and a loaded car even if it is legal.
On most trailers the suspension units unbolt and this may allow you to fit braked units. may need to make up a joggle plate as fixing holes will no doubt be wrong.
Could use a box section as joggle plate to increase trailer height to allow bigger wheels.
Use a square section tube and weld a plate on opposite sides with the correct hole layout. Fit the suspension units to the bottom of this. The tube could go the full width of the trailer to help with alignment etc.
Probably get 500kg units with 10inch mini type wheels.
You also need the cables and a hand brake and a hitch with over run etc. Quite a job.
Thanks navver, I have a trailer tent chassis with brakes so have everything I need. I bought it with the intention of using it for the combi. However it has 10" wheels and with a combi the hight of the trailer body to the ground can't be raised to give 10" wheels clear. It's because of the way it opens. The other option is to lengthen the axle and have wheels outside the trailer and not underneath. Ther must be scrp trailers somewhere with 8" wheels and brakes.
Cheers
If it's a 4 inch PCD 8 or 10 inch wheels fit. Presumably the same is true of 100mm PCD.
My Dandy has 10 inch wheels (ex mini) and my boat trailer had 8 inch. Both are 4 inch PCD.
In other words, use your 10 inch wheel gear and just buy new 8 inch wheels.
Need to check the offset and the size of the drum to make sure they fit. I have a feeling they are 7 inch drums. These say 160mm which is 7 inch as well so may be too big.
