Hi folks,
Just upgraded from a tent to a folding camper (Conway Cruiser) which will hopefully be ready for us by the end of the week.
Managed to alter our pre-booked holidays to accept the new unit so all's well.
Anyway, just wondering what you say when booking with a folding camper? Do you just tell them it's a trailer tent to make life easier (and cheaper maybe??) or do do you tell them it's a camper (which to me conjures up images of VW's)?
Been looking at a few sites which take tents but no campers, so would I get away with my folding camper/trailer tent?

"Been looking at a few sites which take tents but no campers, so would I get away with my folding camper/trailer tent?"

If they are stating no campers one would assume, never assume!, they are talking camper vans/motorhomes and if so then you should be OK, but it's always best to phone and check. As I said with a FC/TT never assume.

Doubt if you would just call your FC a camper.

I tell the site I'm bringing a folding camper. If they don't know what I mean I explain its caravan base with fabric top, and give them the size when pitched, including the awning if I'm going to use it.

A site might only be allowed to take take tents as a requirement of the planning rules / restrictions they have to abide by. The site might not be able to take any camping unit with wheels.

As Blueexpo suggests, I would always check as I find some sites treat my unit as a caravan while others say I'm not a caravan but are happy for me to be on site. I've never had any problems once I've described my set up..

The Folding Campers have the benefit of a caravan base and a tent top but it is classed as a tent.
Shell Island is not certified for caravans but you can use the Folding Camper.
On the other hand it is possible to use a hard-standing pitch which would not be available to tents....
If the site has a query I tell them its a soft top caravan

First time I have ever heard this.

I always assumed that "tent and small campervans only" sites would not accept a folding camper. But this year a contacted a couple and they were fine with folding campers. It does seem to be a planning thing, and whether that is based on the aesthetics of having large white plastic blobs in their campsite, or that caravans can be used more permanently, but they don't put folding campers in the same category, presumably as they have the canvas roof.

But annoying as it is, its always worth checking as they might have other reasons (wild camping sites might have principles which a chemical toilet and three way fridge don't really meet :-) )

When booking on line I normally select Trailer Tent, as it is really the closest thing, and only select caravan if I am after a hard standing. (We still need to get the skirt pegs in the ground)

Thanks guys, most of my neighbours and friends think it's a trailer tent anyway.
Worth checking with the sites though I reckon.

We always click on trailer tent when booking a site as there isn't usually a folding camper option, then put in the size of our F.C. We have never had a problem when we have pitched. On the many sites we have visited.
