Right, first of all, let's get this right. I'm the idiot. Our pre-owned TT is up in the garden - looks great, looks huge - and I'm going round, sorting things. Bought packs of new rubber tie down rings as previous owner had snapped most of them. Mumbling away this PM, trying to get something through the torn off loop to secure ring to. Then realised there is a double mudflap (unlike all our tents) and the rings (in good condition) are sandwiched between those flaps. Should have looked properly, not jumped to conclusions. Plus side, got plenty of spares now.

As to sleeping. This is our first TT, always slept on ground. How comfy should we expect to find sleeping on a hinged sheet of wood propped up on two legs?

We're expecting excellent kip, just wonder if there are any tips for those kips - like, don't stand on the unsupported corners etc. No smutty stuff though <grin>

Thanks all, two weeks and we're heading west.

Tony the unobservant.

I think you might need some sort of mattress on top of that sheet of wood...unless you have a bad back and then sleeping on a plank of wood is supposed to be good for it

Several threads on here about dealing with condensation under the mattress, not something that everybody experiences but it's worth looking at them.

As to the comfort (or not) of sleeping in your T/T, this will largely depend on the thickness and quality of your cushions. However, if you find them uncomfortable and you intend keeping your T/T long term, these could be replaced, or you could even use suitably sized air beds (which you may already have).

John.

Liked the heading of this post, drew it to my wife's attention, she said it was a chore but she manages.

Well. the idiot is back on-line. Laptop had serious infection which took ages to clear, then it froze and expired. So, after two weeks wait, bought another laptop - should have used my mobile, but that was playing up, so got a new one of those as well. Pleased we saved on a used TT.

Couldn't test ride the bed as once we'd sited trailer in front garden there wasn't enough space to put beds out properly. But so what, we're off on the 27th and will know soon enough. At least we'll have enough space to spread it out properly.

Lessons learnt so far. Use a proper PC engineer, not someone a friend once used and, don't hang onto that favourite phone for too long because you know how to use it.

Take care all.
Tony.

I tend to pick up a few infections when after a beer or two ... But at my age I'm not bothered about it ... lol

I'll be dead of old age before it kills me :)

Sleeping is excellent, what a change from tenting - even though we still love tents. Wish the people we bought TT from had mentioned that the 'living space' awning leaked like a teabag. Well, live and learn. Big blue tarp working fine.

Will advertise TT honestly when we get back - mentioning that reproof might cure problem - take what we can get and invest in a newer, drier, TT. Think this is the way to go.

Big positive, sleeping pods dry and so very warm.

Keep dry all.
Tony.
