Just about to buy my first hybrid and whileI knew that in the past there were problems towing, I thought Toyota had solved it. Now, looking it up, it seems you can tow with a Prius ( 5 seater) but I can't see anything about the Prius+ ( 7 seater) Does anyone know if it's possible because otherwise it's a dealbreaker and I will have to look at another car
Not always a good idea to trust a dealer. They probably wont have a definitive amswer amd will be more interested in the sale. Probably best going to Toyota direct and finding out from their technical department.
Well, yes, Jethro, I did ask the dealer but he didn't know on Friday evening and had to get in touch with someone who did know and wasn't going to give me an answer till at least tomorrow.
So I thought I'd ask here, where all sorts of people tow all sorts of things with all sorts of cars and I figured one person might be able to tell me.
And so far, I have had zero answers from Toyota and two answers from camping forums!
It turns out that Troon is correct, you can't tow with the Prius+. The problem is nothing to do with the engine; it is because of the way the bodywork is designed.
There is a Volvo hybrid 7 seater which can tow but unfortunatly Volvo is way out of my price range.
So I will be going for a Diesel Verso which is very disappointing as I really did love the Prius+.
Maybe they will redesign it in a few years so I can tick all my boxes but I can't hold out till then as my current car is on its last legs.
I had both a 2010 and a 2013 Prius T Spirit, and I was unable to tow with either of them.
The Prius is no Longer on the Company Car List, so I have opted for the 2.0 Caddy Maxi Life DSG, Which gives me the much needed space, which the Prius didnt, have to take all my camping gear, and I can tow if I need to.
The Packing Commences this weekend, and Fingers crossed I can get it all in, however the More space you have, the more gear you end up buying. I have just treated myself to the Waeco CoolFreeze CFX 95 which will take up a significant amount of the additional load space I gained :-)
So, to answer my own question, I am collecting my new VERSO complete with towbar this weekend. Come on, Toyota, get your act together, I wanted the Prius!
Sorry to butt in, Chipmonkey, but any chance of a heads up/review once you have given it a good run?
Took an initial first glance at the Verso just yesterday, and "I'm thinking about it"!
Not a tower, just a lugger of tent camping gear with bikes on the tow bar.
Looking for a possible replacement for my current Kia Sedona now the warranty has finished.
Hope you enjoy it!
