Do you think this idea could work?

Attach a strip of awning piping to the camper which could then connect to the porch awning via the fig 8 strip. Do you think it would it be possible to sew it behind the existing awning zip? I read on here that someone had had a different size zip sewn on. I have given up with the fig 8 strip idea and am now not easily able to source a zip. This piping is pretty cheap and the beauty of it would be that different porch awnings could be attached.

We also have side annex to the original awning and I am just wondering if we could take the zip off that - do you think it would be the same size zip as the camper? We have never used the annex and have stopped using the main awning.

Someone on Facebook was selling a zip which had awning piping sewn on, I think it was an awning zip which attached to the camper cabin. They were calling it a Pennine Awning converter kit or something similar. So it does seem possible to do what you're thinking of.

I had a zip sewn onto an air awning and the other half of the zip sewn onto the main canvas of the pathfinder.

That way I could use the awning on the pathfinder and other campers....

The other option is to buy the matching zip and just have the half you need sewn onto the porch awning.

Not expensive to buy the zips and neither was the sewing as any local alterations shop would be able to do it. I can't sew in a straight line or I would have done it myself.

From memory I think the zip was about £15 and the sewing £12 or so, certainly wasn't expensive

Thanks for replies. I love the idea of the converter kit. This would enable you to try different porch awnings. It's an old Cruiser so I am not sure yet what zip to buy. I need to get the awning extension out and see if that zip works and then either use that zip or try and source one that matches.

have a look at our profile pics ,i did the exact thing years ago the porch awning in pic has been replaced in the last couple of years by a bigger porch ,you are correct as with the piping the awning does not change so can resell as caravan awning

So you did indeed manage to sew the awning piping to the camper right? Then you have this connected to the figure of 8 strip which is then connected to the awning? It's interesting that your awning has a very straight, horizontal roof line.

How did you manage to sew the piping onto your camper?

used a wax cotton from a chandlers and followed along the seam line with a lot of patience
