Spent yesterday evening messin around with the wiring on the tow bar that is to tow our conway crusader.   Can't get the brake lights to work.  Anyway we took the socket off the towbar only to find the pins corroded and convinced ourselves that we had found the problem.    All the other lights work, just not the brake lights.  Well hubby checked all the car electric systems out this afternoon at work and reported everything fine.  We ordered a new socket convinced that we had it sorted.  Then this afternoon our friend where we store the camper phoned to say that he had connected his car to the camper and guess what, no brake lights.  So the problem is in the camper wiring.  But where to start.

Also we we had the camper plugged in to the mains yesterday and made sure the hot water tank was full, but once again, everytime we switched on the water heater it tripped out the leccy.  The house leccy too.  Are we going to have the same problem on site?  How can we check that one out.  Anyone else had these problems?

Just for the record putting the water heater on with out any water does not trip the electric straight away.Don't ask how I know Sounds to me like a fault in the camper.

Getting a qualified electrician is sound advice. And although it can cost, it is cheaper than repairing / replacing the camper if it catches fire - which is a real possibility!

Yes get it checked out at a towbar specialist fitter. They can trace all the wires to find the fault. (speaking from experience!!!)

Hi Carol

We found the fault.  There was a loose wire in the plug on the camper.  So we did that up and hey presto it worked, on our friends car though, we did not check on our car.   Well got the new socket for our towbar and put it on today.  I then drove to friends house and plugged it in.  Left hand indicator made right hand indicator light come on. Right hand indicator made left hand indicator come on.  Reverse gear put on one side light, brake light put reversing light etc etc......  It turns out that our friend that we share the camper with had turned the socket on the camper round by 180 degrees because it did not work with his car.  Said the camper was wired the wrong way round.  It now transpires that all the time his towbar electrics have been wired the wrong way round.  Ahhhhh!!  At least I am almost an expert now on the wiring set up for towbars.

Still haven't sorted out the water heater.  Will leave that alone and use the gas water heater, it is great.  Lashings of hot water in no time at all when we tried that out.

New Forest here we come.

Meeting up with some family at Setthorns  Rizzo.  I went there last year.  Not that keen on it myself but my sister (she who must be obeyed in our family) will only go there and her hubby is keen to go caravanning and she's not keen, so she holds the trump card.

I would prefer a site a little bit more open.  The trees are very dense and it felt a bit dark.  Not that many level pitches either.    But it is peaceful I think.

I must admit we did a drive thru and wasn't keen, much prefer Ashurst, the only plus point was hook-up.

Yeah I like the look of Ashurst too.  But she who must be obeyed will not go without hookup as she cannot go without watching the blasted soaps on telly.

I think we'll have a look round Ashurst while we are there.    It looks like we will be going next weekend instead though and not this one.   I have been a bit ill during the night and most certainly will not be up to camping this weekend.
