I'm wondering if some of the denizens of this forum can assist me; I've recently purchased a 1989 conway cruiser, and have some questions regarding it that i'd much appreciate an answer to.
1/ The door. Whilst this would seem to be the original door, for some reason it is almost too small for the aperture, having a three quarter inch gap between the lock side of the door and the rest of the body. This gap is not obvious on the outside, as it is hidden by the L shaped profile of the edge of the door, but it means that the lock barely engages, leaving the door free to swing open.
Whilst the latter may conceivably be down to a missing strike plate (see #2), as there are two screw holes on the inside of the wall, adjacent to where the lock is; is the gap at the edge of the door there because it used to be filled by some form of foam tape or similar?
I have eliminated the obvious - the chassis/bodywork is neither bent nor broken - and as such I'm operating under the assumption that it was intentionally made this way. Answers anyone?
2/Talking of the lock - am i right in thinking this is a caraloc 640? If so, is it possible to remove/replace the lock barrel without the key? (The previous owner told me they had been lost many years ago) If possible i'd prefer to simply swap out the lock barrel rather than replace the whole thing. I find it a little odd that there is no strike plate for the lock though - should it have had one originally?
3/The electrics - the 12volt system is wired via a "chocolate block" connector under the sink, and is a bit of a rats nest - if anyone has either a wiring diagram, or can provide photos of the 12volt wiring on their 1980's/1990's cruiser, i'd be most grateful, as I plan on eventually wiring in a trickle charger and selector switch to allow the 12v system to be powered by either the battery or via a 12v transformer off the 240v EHU. (Currently it's wired via a 12(s) cable to battery terminals in the Gas locker up front.)
4/Does anyone have an english manual for the dreaded campingaz t618 three way fridge? I've found one in french, but translating the french is getting tedious...
5/What happened to the "ever so helpful Conway Owners Club forum", a former conway capri owner told me existed? I can't see any mention of a forum on their webpage....
6/ Can anyone give me any details of the underfloor heater that was apparently optional for this model? I've not got one fitted, but have a couple of brackets under the floor in about the right place, and was wondering if this is what they were for.

If you follow that link, then go to the Media and Downloads Page (Other Downloads) there is a manual for the T618 Fridge. There's, also, a manual for the under floor heater.
The door wasn't made that way, but they do move over time. Around half the ones I have worked on that are 20 years older, or more, have shifted a little. Whilst the chassis is very rigid, the main frame work is, basically, a series of wooden panels, clad in a thin skin of metal, and held together by screwing it on to the furniture. That's a bit of an over simplification, and it will, of course, hold together with the furniture removed, but much of the rigidity does come from the cupboards, etc, and a little movement will happen, especially where the beds pivot. You should be able to replace the lock barrel, without a problem, from the inside.
Also on blueexpo97's link are all the Conway Manuals, and the Pennine wiring diagram. Although this is the Pennine system, the Conway one will have been very similar. Of course, one thing you do tend to find on earlier models it they will, often, have been chopped and changed quite a bit (which might explain the rat's maze). Mains electrics weren't standard in 1989, so many have added their own, and / or changed the 12V system around, as well.
The Conway Owners Club forum is no more (or it may as well be). It still exists, but is no longer used, to any extent. On the plus side, the reason for this is that it has been transferred to a facebook group, so you can still join that, if you want any help from members. The Owners CLub, itself, still exists, and their web site is excellent, and still a great resource. It's just that the forum part has, mostly, migrated to fb.
