We have a Conway Crusader, changing gas bottle whilst erect is no fun, having sliced my finger with a thin spanner that keeps popping off the nut - can anyone recommend a thicker one that works in situ and doesn't bite back??

Change the regulator for one with a handwheel?
That's what I did not only because it's easier but the nozzle has a rubber seal at the end of the thread rather than a brass to brass contact found on the hexagon fitting. With a hexagon fitting I have had to use PTFE tape around the thread to seal the smell of gas whereas with the handwheel you don't get that problem.
I don't think you won't find a handwheel type regulator for Butane cylinders because the fitting is the opposite way round ie: the male thread is on the cylinder and not on the regulator so the handwheel connection has to be for propane (red) gas cylinders only.
This is the type of handwheel I have because the regulator is not directly fitted to the cylinder which it probably is on a folding camper but if you look closely you can see the rubber seal at the nose of the thread.
