Hello. We are picking up our (new to us) Pennine Pathfinder 2013 on Thursday - yay! We also have a Dometic Combicool type fridge which we will be using as well. My question is can we safely cool (via 12s connection) the Pathfinder fridge and Combicool which will be transported in boot of our Skoda Yeti and connected via 12v car connection. Can we safely cool both while towing?
When we have done this whilst abroad with the air conditioning going full blast, we have on occasion managed to kill our car battery. It has made me so paranoid that we now don't bother plugging in the dometic in the car. We just drop in a couple of freezer packs for the journey and make sure the really perishable stuff is inside the trailer. If you have had any battery problems, then I would avoid it.
Thanks for the information. That's good to know. I will definitely be mindful of this. I think I will plug the Dometic in intermittently (after initial cooling on mains) so as to give the car battery a rest.
sorry but either you must of had a poorly battery or alternator. or the 12s was wired in correctly. as the camper should not take power without the engine running. and the amount of amps used to run a couple of fridges would not kill a battery, even with the air con running.
to the op, you will need to pre cool the fridges,as the 12v won't cool a warm fridge. if you stop you will need to unplug the fridge in the car, if the power outlet is live without the engine running, as in fords.
Wongers, if the 2nd fridge was plugged in to a permanently live lighter socket inside the car and they left it plugged in while they parked the car for a few hours it could fully discharge the battery beyond recovery.
