We have a 2002 pennine fiesta folding camper. We thought the leisure battery needed replacing as we can't even run one light on the 12v. When we took the battery into the shop it was tested and it showed plenty of charge. Any other ideas what could be wrong.
what else doesn't work? water pump and lights? have you checked you have turned the main switch on? have you checked fuses? have you ever seen them working? i.e. is this a new to you or have you owned it as few years
There is a switch that should say VAN/CAR or a picture of a trailer and car which needs to be switched to the van/trailer which is the mains switch to get 12 volts power from the leisure battery. It needs to be switched to CAR when towing as the current comes from the towing vehicle's alternator.
Do the other 12v sockets, pump etc work? Or is just the lights that aren't working? Have the lights ever worked? Are the lights permanently fitted or are they plugged in when needed?
I'd start by checking the battery connections and then working through the system making sure that all the connections, fuses and switches are ok.
I'm a bit confused by your reply. Do you mean the lights work when on hook up with 240v? Are we talking about 12v lights or 240v? Do all the other 12v bits work?
Just to clarify, when you say lights ,do you mean the one on the kitchen shelf. If so,that one is a 12V light, indicating that at least one 12v socket is working. If you put your location in your profile,it may be that you are close to someone willing to help, assuming you are north of Watford gap
Does the voltmeter on the kithen indicate anything at all?
Yes I mean the light on the shelf doesn't work on 12v but it's ok on electric.. We can get someone to look at it. It's just a time issue as we are going away.. It's not too much a problem at moment as its light in the evenings, just like to use sockets for charging and radio. Hey ho will have a good time anyway.
If it works with the EHU plugged in and it is 12 volt, the wiring and charger must be OK. The fault must be between the battery terminals and charger. Most likely the battery leads not connected properly to the battery.
