Hello,
I am stumped with the waterworks on the trailer. We went camping for the first time in it and hooked up to EHU. Everything worked fine apart from the whale pump tap.
My questions are
1. Do I need a leisure battery in order to run the whale pump?
2. Where is the button or whatever else to operate the tap? There is no obvious foot pump or operation on the tap. There is a small black button on the front of the sink unit recessed into the wood. Is this it?
This baffled us as well until it dawned that the pump runs off the leisure battery, not EHU. Ours was a yr 2000 model and the electrics had been added, not factory fitted. And the button 9n the floor ioperates the pump.
Hmm! I don't have a floor button. There is a charger under the seat which I thought would run the 12v without the battery...but not sure! If I knew where the tap button was I'd know if the whale pump definitely isn't working!
With the standard fitt electrics (which the 2005 sterling has) you don't need a bettery if nyou are on EHU, the PSU unit supplies 12V for camper.
Wer have a 1998 Pathfinder. The pump is operated by microswitches in the taps, which operate the pump when turned on. Not sure about the sterling, but the black button maybe it, as I know models/years have the button on the cupboard.
You should be able to see the where the wires connect back to.
If it isn't working, first check the fuse for the water pumpp circuit (by the PSU), also check that the plug from the PSU hasn't become loose or dislodged, I've done that before.
Next I'd check the pump by connecteding direclty to a 12V supply - (put it in water first)
For our 2001 Sterling the button for the pump is on the cupboard door, under the sink (small black button). We've had a leisure battery in all of the time but I recall when we very fist got it we tried it EHU only and the pump worked.
Recently I pump failed - when you pressed the button nothing happened but you could see the battery indicator dip. Its worth checking that if you still don't get any joy.
