Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has bought the new black sleep tight bed inners/pods from Pennine and if they're any good and worth it. I'm a very light sleeper so would love anyone's opinion.

Why don't you just dye the ones you have, if you have any that is.

Did think about that but would have to do that in the bath and don't want to risk permanently dyeing that.

Get one of those large rubber garden buckets, around a £5er and Wilco's do the Dylon. You may need to do them twice. Will try and find the advice some else gave for dying them.

You can get Dylon dyes that can be used in the washer. I use them all the time. Just make sure you follow the instructions afterwards about cleaning the machine. The dyes are about £7.99. Check on the internet as to how many you would need for each bedroom pod. (You work it out on the dry weight of the cloth)

Here you go, it's a bit long.
There have been a couple of posts recently about dying bed pods, so I thought I’d post what we’ve done.

Our 2001 Pathfinder sat unused for a few years in Italy, during which time mice got in and destroyed the canvas, roof liner and bed pods. After we’d replaced the outer canvas, roof liner and curtains thanks to ebay, we coped without pods on a couple of trips, but it wasn't ideal. So this year we’ve acquired new pods, a second-hand one (thanks to a member here) for the hitch-end bed, and a new pod from Pennine for the seat-end bed.

One thing we immediately noticed is that the new pods are made of much heavier fabric and generally better constructed than they used to be.

The idea of black or grey pods wasn't to our taste, since the photos we’d seen made it look like there were black holes at either end of the tent. Our idea was that since red is the compliment of green, then the combination of the green outer tent and an inner tent in some shade of red should result in good light blocking.

Using Dylon is always a hit or miss thing, and I was a little apprehensive about the results, but based on what’s been said here previously, we chucked three pods of Plum Red Dylon into the washing machine along with the hitch-end bed pod. My wife really likes the result and I think it’s okay, but to my eye it looks more reddish brown than red. If we were doing it again, I’d use only two dye pods. Even though the fabric of the pod is quite thin, it definitely blocks a lot of light.

The photos were taken with the morning sun shining directly on the hitch end of the Pathfinder. I know it’s difficult to judge from a photo, but the bed is really pretty dark if the curtains are drawn and the curtain-side flap is up. I’m sure it’s nowhere near as dark as it would be if we’d forked out for one of Pennine’s new blackout liners, but we tend to be early risers anyway.

Our daughter wanted her bed to be violet, so we used two pods of Dylon Deep Violet on her pod. She really likes the result, and her Mum and I think it looks pretty cool too. In direct sun, her bed is much darker than the hitch-end bed, and I’m sure this is largely due to the thicker fabric.

Since we were now in the mood to dye things, we decided to go mad and do the curtains too. The aim was a shade that complimented both pods and contrasted with the green theme in the rest of the cabin, so we used just one Deep Violet Dylon pod for the four cabin curtains plus the eight inner and outer bed curtains.

The result was interesting and not what I was expecting, because the dye didn’t take on the brown and green pattern on the curtains.

I’m sure the colour scheme won’t be to everyone’s taste, but we’re happy with it.

Just want to say a big thank you to Joe67, pnefan and gedsjeep for helping me with my question, I paid £20 for 4 dylon pods from Amazon, went with the smokey grey, used 2 pods for each bed pod and the results are brilliant. Got a mottled effect which goes with the work surface, once I put her all back together I'll take some pics for future reference. Thanks again for saving my pennies.

Heather x
