Hi,

We are about to own a Rapido Orline 33e. Is it possible to add a hammock/bunk bed above the single seat area for a child to create the 4th berth? I have seen the hammock fitted on the Freedom caravan but not sure if we could do the same in Rapido Orline 33e.

Also, when did a towing test of this 1994 model, it seems to have a suspension issue. Will it be a simple fix or would require major work and cost that might not worth it?

Apart from the berth and suspension, the caravan seems to be kept in good condition considering its age. (The water pump does not work but it is not a deal breaker for us.)

We are currently using airbeam tent for camping and never own a caravan. We need the reduced height and width to fit in our narrow drive and garage so really want this compact Orline to work for us!

We had the Freedom Sunseeker with bunk. It was two metal poles run through sleeves in the canvas. It was fitted into timber blocks on the side walls which were obviously fixed to something strong enough to take the weight. We did use it for our son who was about 9 or 10.

The Orline obviously has folding sides and not sure if there is a window in the corner and one side seems to bulge out for extra width in a narrow body when folded. I'm going by this one.

I guess you'd need some timber uprights resting on the bunk below for the poles to rest on but would need them to be removable for folding but also restrained in position when in use.

If you can't get this to work, what about looking for a four berth folding camper? Would that work for you? They're generally pretty compact when folded, certainly compared to a caravan. We have a Dandy which is made from pvc so no need to worry about wet canvas when packing up.

I have ordered the W4 caravan bunk bed brackets (it seems to be the only available option as I have searched those brackets used for Freedom Sunseeker but without luck) Now I still need to work out how to safely and securely screw them onto the folding side panels without damaging anything. The suggestion of using timber upright by navver could be interesting.

We have only 180cm width to allow parking in our narrow garage so this Orline 33 fits the criterion. I haven't considered the other folding camper as not like the idea of wet canvas. That's another appeal of this Orline with hard top and side panels. I will have a look at the Dandy one to see if this could be an alternative. Thanks for the suggestion, JacquiR.

The Freedom bracket was only a block of wood with a semi circular cut-out across teh top to hold the circular poles. You could make one.

I had a Dandy Designer which was 5 berth. There is no canvas. It's part solid sides and insulated PVC covering, similar to curtain sided lorries. Warm in winter and cool in summer.

With a width of 180cm you will need a Dandy Dart 160cm or Dandy Delta 180cm. They did do some Deltas with inboard wheels which made them narrower.
The Designer is 188cm.

The Dart and Delta both have 2 double beds plus a bench. The Designer is a littler wider and has the same 2 double beds but has a small table in lieu of the small bench.

Dandys can be bought from about £500 upwards to several thousands. Even the old ones will still have lots of life in them and spares etc can be bought from Riva Leisure Sales.

The other option is a Gobur Slimline folding caravan which are only 173cm wide.
