We have a Dandy Dart and has been great fun camping with this, unfortunately my wife has developed brittle bone disease and I dont want her to risk injury helping to put it up,can anyone recommend a trailer tent capable of being erected by one person alone?..Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
I put up a Pennine Countryman folding camper on my own, and the awning. I do have one of the newer ones (2010+) that has gas struts and the newer material rather than the heavier canvas.
If it’s a bit windy, I struggle with the awning. I have always managed to find someone just to hold a pole for 5 mins while I bang in some pegs just to hold it in place.
I do have a motor mover on it as moving it on gravel or grass is a difficult. Tarmac is not too bad as long as I only need to go in a straight line.
The Dandy Dart is I think the smallest of the range. My difficulty is with the roof being so heavy due to the generous amount of insulation used.If I had reasonable space at my own property I would have a bash putting it up on my own but its not practical where I live and I am not too happy trying it out somewhere on open land or on a supermarket carpark afterhours. I haven,t seen anything as suitable as the Dart yet, and I am thinking would it be worth going up to Riva Dandy Sales(great bloke Ian!) and asking would it be possible to fit a lightweight roof as we only use it from May to Sept.anyway?. so lack of insulation wouldn,t matter too much to us.We got 12 weeks camping in last year thanks to that glorious summer,I am 71 and admit to being a bit phobic about planes, and hotels and stuff, and want to "carry on camping " as long as we can. Thanks for your reply.!

Thanks for your reply ,the Countryman looks like a nice camper and I will certainly have a peep at them, thanks again and happy camping!.
Could you book a few days away and ring ahead and explain the situation to the warden and see if they could be on standby to help?
The heaviest part for me is flipping the beds over. It is difficult for a second person to help with this, I find they get in the way. After that there’s two poles to join and the rest just need extending or clipping in place. You do need to fold / unfold the roof, but I find standing on the step helps with this if I’m struggling. It’s not heavy, just harder if it’s windy or I’m rushing as it’s about to rain..
Pennine are at Accrington. If you give them a ring I’m sure they will let you try to put one up so you can see whether you could manage it. The other one is Camperlands. They have some different ones you may be interested in.
