Hi I'm collecting a 1999 Pennine Fiesta folding camper at the weekend. From the photos I can see it has a square/rectangular shape number plate. Are these standard sizes? Some websites list them as bike plates. There are also other sizes specific to certain cars with this shape plate. Does anyone know the size or plate I should be ordering. Thanks
This gives some info. It does say motorcycle and motor tricycle number plate numbers should be on 2 lines but doesn't seem to say anything about car or trailer plate shapes or sizes.
Of course motor bikes would struggle to get a single line plate on the back. They used to have them on the front but they made a very good blade for slicing pedestrians.
On the Fiesta it depends on the space available and the arrangement of number plate lighting. Probably find the plate will fit on the door with the lights to the side.
As long as the font size is correct then square or rectangular is fine. The plate must just be of the specified size in the regs. A lot of 4x4 cars (landrover, etc) have a square plate as standard.
I didn't think they were allowed to sell these any more because of the possibility of cloning. If you go into a shop to have number plates made up they will ask you for proof of ownership, such as the vehicle's registration document. I've been asked for this even though the shop owner knew both me and my car as I am a regular customer.
There are numerous companies on the net(ebay included)that ask for no proof of ownership to sell you plates.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
But remember that unless they also have the manufacturers details printed on them they are also illegal....worth checking as not worth the fine if you got pulled

Those plates are only legal for display purposes.
For road use it is a legal requirement to produce documents and the plates must show identification of the supplier.

That is exactly as I believed. After all, if one supplier can supply dodgy plates there is little point in anyone asking for proof of ownership.
I have no doubt of the legality of the whole thing, but just look around the roads and there will be hundreds of thousands if not millions of cars with no manufacturers name or postcode on the plates.
